DJ Spinderella Says She Was Fired From Salt-N-Pepa

I love social media. Not only because you can talk a whole bunch of shit from the confines of your own home without having to deal with lawsuits, but because celebrities, who also love social media, will air all of their business in a heartbeat! This was the case with legendary hip hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa, who along with DJ Spinderella, have been providing sexy hits for three decades. But now, according to Spinderella, she’s been ejected from the group by none other than Salt-N-Pepa themselves!

This really doesn’t make any sense to me because Salt-N-Pepa have been together since 1985, which means that they can never break up because it would be another blow to my already frayed childhood. But alas, it’s true. Essence reports that Spinderella posted the devastating news to her Instagram page last week following the premiere of the BET docuseries Ladies Night, which features Spinderella (government name: Deidra Roper), her fellow (or should I say former now?) Salt-N-Pepa group members Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, as well as 90’s R&B group SWV. Salt-N-Pepa and SWV are going on a joint tour. While the show portrays Spinderella as a member of Salt-N-Pepa, she wanted to make it very clear that not only was she no longer a member, but they gave her the worse belated Christmas gift ever back in January: a termination email!

“I’m deeply saddened to share with all the #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella fans that I will not be performing on the #NKOTB Mixtape Tour. Despite my participation in promoting the tour and being highly publicized as one of the acts, in January 2019 I received a ‘termination’ email from #SaltnPepa excluding me from performances with the group. It was my expectation, after making that decision, that they would also take responsibility for sharing the news with the public and other affected parties. It has been months now with no mention. Out of love for my fans and a commitment to upholding a standard of professionalism, I’ve taken it upon myself to let everyone know. I refuse to participate in misleading fans, ticketholders, and others who — based on all the advertising — were anticipating seeing the iconic #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella trio. So, I’m making it clear now. Please know you will have the opportunity to see me this summer in many other projects and activities I’ll be participating in and I look forward to seeing you all then.” Thank you, Spinderella ?

Another reason why Spinderella wanted to let her fans know what was going on is because she was slated to appear with Salt-N-Pepa during New Kids On The Block‘s Mixtape Tour featuring Salt N Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Debbie Gibson (who probably left that “call me Deborah” shit at home for this check) and the forever reigning Queen of Mall Singing Tiffany! Spinderella felt that the promos leading up to the tour were misleading since she was let go from the group months ago.

The craziest part of this whole thing is that many people forget that the current Spinderella was actually a replacement herself.

Die-hard Salt-N-Pepa fans will remember that Spinderella is the second deejay to join the trailblazing group, which has always consisted of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton. When the group first banded in the mid-1980s, Latoya Hanson was recruited to be the collective’s elemental disc jockey.

Perhaps the two fired Spinderellas could start their own group called Mrs. Dash, since it’s a seasoning that makes everything better without the use of salt or pepper. And also because they both had to dash out of their former group after being forced to leave. What? Too soon?
