Solange Dropped A New Album Titled “When I Get Home”
Aside from resembling a surprised-looking Orlando Jones with a weave on the cover of her 2016 release A Seat At The Table, Solange Knowles (aka Basement Baby around here) could do no wrong with the amount of fire tracks and accolades she received for that album. In an attempt to make us think and sing along once again, Solange came through with a different approach by ripping a page out of her sister Beyonce’s STUNT QUEEN handbook and dropping a new release at midnight today, titled When I Get Home.
I think the thing I like most about this album’s cover is Solange’s Beyonce as Nyquil drowsy Wonder Woman cosplay because that’s definitely a look! Pitchfork reports that Solange began teasing everyone with the idea of new music on the horizon by dusting off her oldest dial-up connection and posting tracks to Black Planet, which was the Facebook for black people back in the early aughts.

She also began dropping snippets of new music to her Twitter and Instagram accounts as a way to keep the buzz going.

Finally, early this morning Solange decided it was time to give the people what they wanted and unleashed the thirty-nine minute, nineteen track release via Apple Music and Spotify. This new offering pairs Solange with a multitude of collaborators, including Gucci Mane, Tyler the Creator, Pharrell and Cassie (why?). And the sound she’s going for this time around is a fusion of what made A Seat At The Table so successful as well as some other influences.
In a 2018 T Magazine profile, Solange stated that the album—which was tentatively due for a fall 2018 release—was recorded in locations including New Orleans, Jamaica, and California’s Topanga Canyon. “There is a lot of jazz at the core,” she said of the album. “But with electronic and hip-hop drum and bass because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle.”
Solange expressed her gratitude to her fans a few hours before When I Get Home dropped thanking them for their love, support and all the future coins about to bless her bank account.
Y’all! I’m filled w so much joy right now!!! Wow! I can’t thank y’all enough for this moment and for all the feelings i feel in my body!
I’m bringing home w me everywhere I go yalll and I ain’t running from shit no more. Your love lifts me up so high. Thank you!— solange knowles (@solangeknowles) March 1, 2019
Hopefully the impending success of her new album doesn’t cause Beyonce and their mother Tina to reconsider allowing her to live in the outside world while thinking to themselves “We should have never let that bitch out the basement“.
