Clara McGregor Regrets Going In On Mary Elizabeth Winstead

The Times spoke with Clara McGregor about calling Mary Elizabeth Winstead (aka dad Ewan McGregor’s alleged former mistress and current girlfriend) a “piece of trash” earlier this summer. Clara expressed her regret. Too bad, because “piece of trash” has such a nice finality about it. You’re a “piece of trash.” Case closed!
Clara was interviewed about a short film she made about a fractured family that she swears wasn’t inspired by hers. To recap, her dad Ewan allegedly began getting down with his co-star Mary when they starred together in the third season of FX’s Fargo series. Ewan was eventually spotted dining out with Mary by the paps, and this led to his 22-year-old marriage to Eve Mavrakis bursting into non-sexy flame. Ewan and Eve have four daughters together (Clara, 22, Esther, 16, and their adopted sisters Jamyan, 16, and Anouk, 7). Big sis Clara led the charge against dad and his new piece by commenting on a Mary Elizabeth Winstead fan site about her allegedly trampy ways and noting her resemblance to something you’d pitch into a fly-ridden dumpster.
“It wasn’t the most mature way to go about things, but I was angry and upset,” she says with a sigh. “There had been a lot building up to it and a lot to deal with — not to make excuses or anything — but, yeah, it wasn’t my finest moment.”
Clara said it went there because she kept getting tagged in Mary Elizabeth pics, and claims she saw derogatory comments about her mom.
She says: “I kept being tagged in this photograph and I was seeing negative things about my mom. I said how I felt and I didn’t want to apologise for it. It wasn’t the right way to go about things, but it’s a hard thing to wrap your head around when you feel you had this idea of what the family unit is and then to have that shift. It’s very weird.”
And for those of you who question whether or not Mary Elizabeth hid her homewrecking vagina under a trapdoor for Ewan to innocently fall into, Clara blames her dad, too.
“I’d say they were both to blame. It was never one-sided,” she says. “I dealt with stuff with my dad personally — it wasn’t me letting it slide with him and just getting mad at her. Of course not.”
But she’s still close to Ewan.
“But I’m still very close to my dad. I love him and I always will. The relationship’s not going to end because of this. We are incredibly close and despite me strongly disagreeing with how he’s gone about things, I’ll always love him, and I hope he’s happy, you know?”
Still close to Ewan sure, but Mary Elizabeth shouldn’t be surprised if her Christmas gift from Clara during their awkward holiday celebration with dad and new mum this December is a box of Hefty Ultra Strong trash bags.
