Selena Gomez Is Stepping Away To Deal With Some Lupus Side Effects
If Tom Hiddleston was hoping to give us an encore performance of his cringe-inducing dad moves at a Selena Gomez show, he will have to wait a little while, because she has canceled the rest of her tour dates, which were mostly in Europe and South America. Selena pressed the pause button on her career in 2014 when she had to do chemotherapy after she was diagnosed with lupus, and she’s pressing it again. Selena said in a statement through People that she’s going away for the rest of the year.
Selena has been dealing with panic attacks, anxiety and depression, and no, it’s not from reminding herself that she was once with Justin Bieber. She says that anxiety and depression are side effects of lupus, and so she’s taking some time off to take care of herself:
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.
I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”
Almost everything I know about lupus I learned from watching One Life to Live in the 90s. Two characters (shout out to Megan and Marty!) on there had lupus and it got worse after they didn’t stop boozing. But a source tells People that’s not the case for Selena at all. They claim that she doesn’t have any problems with the sweet nectar or drugs. The source also said that she hasn’t really felt like herself lately.
Selena didn’t say exactly when she had an “err, shit ain’t right, I better take a time out” moment, but I have a feeling that it may have happened after she got into a fight on Instagram with her anal abscess of an ex-boyfriend. Just a hunch.
