What In The Hell Do You Even Say Anymore?

By now, you’ve probably already stayed up all night reading about this nightmare news or you woke up to the kind of news that is all too regular in this country. A maniac went on a shooting spree at a gay club called Pulse in Orlando, FL early this morning, and 50 people lost their lives and another 53 people, at least, were injured. It’s now the largest shooting in the U.S., and I started to read a list of the number of deaths in the other shootings, and I got sick over the fact that a list like that even exists. You can’t go to school. You can’t go to church. You can’t go to the movies. You can’t go to a restaurant. You can’t go to a gay club to dance with your friends in 2016.

The shooting started after 2 this morning . The shooter exchanged shots with an officer working at the club before he went inside and opened fire. Around 320 people were inside the club during the shooting. Once the police arrived at the club, it turned into a hostage situation which lasted for 3 hours before a SWAT Team busted into the club and exchanged shots with the shooter. The shooter died.

The killer has been ID’d as 29-year-old Omar Mateen. He held a Florida security officer license and it looks like he had two separates licenses to carry firearms in Florida. Police said in a press conference that Omar Mateen came prepared, and he had one assault-style weapon, a handgun and “some type of other device” on him. He’s an American citizen and didn’t have a criminal record. CBS News says that he did have ties to Islamic terrorism. (UPDATE: The mass murderer called 911 before the shooting to pledge his allegiance to ISIS.) It’s not known if others were involved. TMZ says that authorities believe the shooting at Pulse was a terrorist attack and a hate crime. But Omar Mateen’s father, Mir Seddique, told NBC News that the attack had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with his son hating gay people:

Seddique said his son got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami a couple of months ago and thinks that may be related to the shooting.

“We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren’t aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country,” Seddique said.

What in the fuck… Even I can’t make a PDA joke. He saw an act of love between two humans and his response was to kill 50 people. I just…

There has been a bit of heartwarming news to come out of this horror. Thousands have been waiting in line in Orlando to donate blood that the victims desperately need:
