Adam Scott And Mitch McConnell Got Into A Twitter GIF Fight
Actually, that should probably say Adam Scott and whatever summer intern runs Mitch McConnell’s Twitter account. Because I’m almost positive Mitch thinks a tweet is something those dang nuisance birds do when he’s trying to watch his WWII stories on the History Channel. But for the sake of argument, let’s just say that actor Adam Scott and Senator Mitch McConnell spent yesterday slapping at each other on Twitter.
This all started out innocently enough when Mitch McConnell’s Twitter account replied to a tweet from political correspondent Saagar Enjeti, who reported Donald Trump’s plans to fill the Supreme Court vacancy before the 2020 election. That clearly rustled Mitch’s jimmies in a good way, and he celebrated with a GIF of Adam as Ben Wyatt from Parks and Recreation.

The people who replied with a GIF of Jean Ralphio describing Mitch as “The wooooorst” probably would have been a big enough burn on their own.

But then Adam himself got involved, and this is where it gets messy. Adam seriously did not want Mitch McConnell or anyone on his team using his likeness, unless it’s to celebrate his downfall.
Dear Mitch McConnell & all those representing him,
Please refrain from using my image in support of anything but your own stunning & humiliating defeat.
Thanks!

Mitch’s Twitter account was clearly feeling cocky, and they decided to slap back at Adam with a picture of himself. Specifically, a picture of the fake newspaper from Parks and Recreation from the episode where we learn about Ben Wyatt’s history as an 18-year-old mayor that was impeached two months in after bankrupting the town. Try not to cringe at all this “How do you do, fellow kids?” in action.

If this really was Parks and Rec, Leslie Knope might have taken Ben aside, told him to calm down and that the wrinkled old right-wing ball sack wasn’t worth it, and suggested they go get waffles. But this is real life, which is why Adam fired shots back in the form of an old, embarrassing picture of Mitch McConnell receiving an award from the Sons of Confederate Veterans event in front of a big-ass Confederate flag. The picture made the rounds a few years ago, and Adam decided to bring it on back.

I know this isn’t Parks and Recreation, but that picture of Mitch looks like a character who comes to a town hall meeting, demanding his binoculars be returned to him after he was asked to leave the bushes surrounding the Pawnee outdoor public pool.
Team Mitch had no rebuttal to that picture, so they crawled away and went back to posting Ron Burgundy GIFs.

And that’s the end of that Twitter fight. But of course it was going to end with Adam Scott dragging Mitch in his own mentions. Mitch’s social media team clearly didn’t know who they were messing with when they poked Adam. Because Adam isn’t just sweet and serious Ben from Parks and Recreation; he’s also Derek the cocky dick from Step Brothers. So really, nobody should have been surprised when Adam went full-alpha with that devastating end move.
