Cameron Diaz Admits That She Has Retired From Acting

Earlier this month, Cameron Diaz’s The Sweetest Thing co-star Selma Blair said that there would never be a sequel to TST because Cameron was officially retired from acting. A day later, she backpedaled on Twitter claiming she was making a joke and that Cameron wasn’t retired from anything. I’m guessing that tweet was sent out after Cameron hit her up with a text that read, “Okay listen, you can be there when it happens, but that’s MY news to break.” Because Cammy recently reunited with her TST co-stars Selma and Christina Applegate for Entertainment Weekly, and she broke the news that she’s retired.

Cameron, Christina, and Selma spent the majority of the interview getting nostalgic about filming, like how excited Christina was to say the word “pussy” (and how none of them were allowed to say “cock,” because apparently that was The Sweetest Thing’s line of bad taste). Toward the end, EW asked if all three of them have reunited since filming. Only Christina and Selma see each other, because their kids are friends. Christina says she’s up for a hang-out, because she’s “semi-retired” and hasn’t worked in a year. Then Cameron chimed in:

“I’m totally down. I’m semi-retired, too, and I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies.”

When asked about the idea of a reboot, all three agreed that absolutely no one is playing the characters but the three of them. Both Cameron and Christina said they’d come “out of retirement” for it. Selma then joked that she’s automatically in, adding: “This movie did not propel me to retirement status.

So there you have it, Cameron Diaz is retired, but only until someone brings her the script for what Christina Applegate called The Sweetest Thing: The Geriatric Years (personally, I think it should be The Sweetest No-Sugar Werther’s). But we already sort of knew all that. The only thing Cameron said during the interview that shocked me was a part when she talked about how they sang Khia’s “My Neck, My Back” on set all the time. Except when Cameron tried to remind them of it during the interview, she sang: “Lick my back, lick my crack, lick my pussy.” It’s a good thing Cameron is retired – she’s got more than enough time to go home and dedicate the time needed to properly learning those lyrics. Please show Khia’s “My Neck, My Back” the respect it deserves.
