Kanye West Got Caught Using A Torrent Site By Deadmau5 (UPDATE)

Either Kanye West really is as broke as he says he is or he’s just really really dumb (“Why not both?” said the Old El Paso taco kit girl), because last night he was caught trying to steal something. No, not a loaf of bread for his poor starving family. Kanye was caught trying to steal music editing software. And how did he get caught? By tweeting a screen grab of a bunch of open browser tabs, one of which was for the illegal torrent site The Pirate Bay. In the words of DJ Khaled: Congratulations, you played yourself.

Kanye’s fuck up started innocently enough with a screen grab showing that he was listening to Sufjan Stevens on YouTube.

Unfortunately, he forgot to crop out all those open browser tabs at the top. A mistake that was noticed by fellow Tidal artist Deadmau5, who zoomed in to see what else Kanye had been doing on the internet. That’s when he discovered that in the first open tab was Serum, a music editing software created by Xfer Records. The second tab may have exposed that Kanye downloaded a copy of Serum, which retails for $189, on The Pirate Bay. Most people probably laughed at Kanye being a cheapskate, but not Deadmau5. Deadmau5 is the co-founder of Xfer Records, which means Kanye was thieving from someone he knows. And yeah, Deadmau5 was super pissed about it.

Kayne has yet to respond to Deadmau5. Maybe he’s waiting to meet with his mother-in-law to discuss how bad it would be for the Kardashian brand if he started a fight with Mickey Mouse.

I’m all for catching a thief, but what if Kanye wasn’t actually trying to steal a copy of Deadmau5’s music software? It could all be a coincidence. Kanye could be taking his hobo ballerina clothing line in a dirtier, grimier direction and ended up at The Pirate Bay after searching “pirate bae“? That must be it.

But the funniest part about this story might be that Kanye was caught listening to music on YouTube. Even Tidal artists don’t want to use Tidal!

UPDATE: Like a finger poking around a booty, sources konnected to Kanye tell TMZ he was just teasing us with that picture of The Pirate Bay open on his browser. Kanye thought it would be funny to make a joke about The Life of Pablo being illegally downloaded so many times by pretending to torrent stuff himself. And speaking of trolling, he’s now trolling Deadmau5 on Twitter by calling him “Dead-mow-five” and asking him to perform at North West’s birthday party dressed as Minnie Mouse.
