Battle of the Diddies
Diddy is set to perform at Wembley Arena in the UK, but a Judge has ordered that he must drop the “Diddy” from one of his songs. A DJ named Richard âDiddyâ Dearlove has already secured the rights to that name in the UK. He has been using the name professionally since 1992. Last year, he won ÂŁ10,000 in damages against Diddy. Sean Combs agreed to stop using the name in the UK, however he breached the agreement last year when his album “Play” was released. In the track “The Future” Diddy uses the name again. The Judge said, âThe second verse refers to Mr Combs as âDiddyâ as he invites the listener to âmainline this new Diddy heroinâ. Mr Combs expressly refers to iTunes and asks the listener to âDownload me in every residentâ. He refers to his CD as âmy CDâs in 3-D hologramsâ, and finally refers to his shows with the words, âthe live showâs a hard act to follow manâ. âI see this as straightforward advertisement by Mr Combs of his CD, his songs which can be downloaded from iTunes and his live shows, all under and by reference to the word âDiddyâ. âThe listener will understand he is being encouraged to buy the Press Play CD, to download the songs and that the live show is an event well worth attending.â The Judge also wants a full trial to discuss Diddy’s breach on YouTube and MySpace. DAMN! Does this ass have to change his name again?! I was just getting used to Diddy and now he’s gotta get up and change it again? He should just merge the P and Diddy. Piddy! Yeah, I like that. Poor Piddy! Source
