PHM, you sound like you'd like advocacy work. If you really want to sail, there are all sorts of organizations you could join. Like those working to protect the fisheries industries. Or if you do humanitarian aid work, you could see if you find a good fit in one of them. Have you volunteered locally if you are interested in helping people?

I'm still trying to figure that part out myself, lol and save a bit so I can have the flexibility of trying.

You are full of good ideas! I would hope to do an animal sanctuary and then have another food orientated business to support it. I guess turning 30 next year makes me realize that I need to get my plans in motion soon.

I did do an internship with an animal sanctuary a few years ago. I really just want to have a place with domesticated animals where it is basically their last stop. I'd like to incorporate homeless people, too. I've spent years planning for this lol. Some day!

Haha well that does make me feel better PHM. I write on my phone most of the day, and when I come home I'm amazed at the gibberish and how well my point did NOT get across. But hey, it's just the interwebs, I guess lol.

Hey, Martha Stewart started with catering. How about that? You're right to save first. Debt can freeze your life, or it did mine. I'm just getting out of it, and I only recommend school debt, but little else unless you're using it wisely (for getting travel points or discounts or whatever). My vegan friend-the one who also wants to study monkeys- makes the best vegan cookies, or some of the best cookies period, in the world. Better than what I taste at whole foods-even those Eddie's vegan ones. Maybe we'll all taste one of your creations some day. Larabar lady started in her basement after all.

I've thought about a food truck type of thing, but even then i'd need some start up money that I would rather earn first instead of borrow.

PHM, many people in environmental studies do that. You can even go up north in the real cold and study the habitat, etc. Or there are countless animal advocacy organizations you could work in. You could even be a consultant and travel to your clients. Ultimately, I'd love to start a business and manage it.

@Cashew, lol I'd like to continue and do a master's but if an opportunity pops up for something I'd go for it. I think I already could make a change but I wanted to finish this first and save up some for when I make the leap but I've been keeping my eye out on some ideas. ;)

That sounds awesome. A close friend of mine wants to do a similar thing. I think she's studied monkeys somewhere. Could you open a diner on your land somewhere? Or a little stand at first? Is your cooking strictly vegetarian? There was a vegan hot dog place in South Central LA that I loved. It was in a very "dangerous" area, yet people from all over went to eat by this little truck. Maybe you could create something like a truck for healthy snacks of sorts. I think there's a strong market for vegetarian stands like that.

I write nonfiction. Editorials, essays and poems. I also like screenplay writing, though I've only forayed into that a little bit. I write mostly comedy. Don't worry-it's not the gibberish I write here. I'm tired a lot these days lol. Which is why my writing is suffering.

What would you do on the cruise ship? How do you want to be published, like a book deal? Writing is such a great thing because there are so many options and you really have a lot of freedom.

I eventually want to have my own animal sanctuary and maybe a restaurant. I will need a lot of money for either, which is why I am considering working on the boats for a few years.

Don't worry about your babies. They have your mom and they'll see you every week. As long as they're young they'll be okay.
I'm very attached to my dog also. I think my life won't move on until she passes. She has tumors on her leg and after two surgeries, my mom has decided not to remove this round (and I agree). I'm going to stay here as long as she needs me, whether it's one year or three. I imagine with her gone I won't have a reason to stay here longer. In the meantime, I have to stop making excuses and write more, arg.

I live on the Great Lakes so I would be a cook on a laker, still a sailor though lol. I wouldn't want to go on the ocean boats :/

I probably will, but only as a relief and on a boat that comes to my city every week. I guess it's time to put my culinary degree to work. I just hate to leave my babies (dogs) But it's damn good money.

Sailor or crew PHM? If you are any good... There are people who always need crew for open ocean in the spring. I know there's a joke at my expense in there someplace... But good sailors are hard to find...:)

It's funny everyone on here is contemplating career change because I have been thinking about becoming a sailor for the next shipping season. Hahaha. For real. I can keep my business going while I'm gone. It's just a reoccurring thought I've been having lately.

I have sun/moon/venus in Gemini, lol. Your job actually sounds fun. I enjoy the freedom of my random jobs, but the problem for me is health insurance. I work retail part time so I can have more jobs at other times. What a mess!
