@UBF - Pooping in the cat carrier is most likely a sign of nervousness. Both of my mom's cats pooped EVERY time they went to the vet, as well as peed in the carrier too.
As far as the urine smell associated with cats, if the cat is spayed or neutered, I've found the odor is almost non-existent. Un-neutered males have the strongest smelling urine, but that goes away about a month after you get them neutered.
What's more sad than the fact that 10,000 animals got euthanized today? The fact that because of the ignorance of humans, it will happen again tomorrow. End the cycle. Spay and neuter your pets & please adopt your next pet from a shelter.

Am so sorry about your baby! I have 3 fur babies that are all around 9-10 (one's a rescue from the Humane Society so not really positive on her age). I am already dreading the inevitable. No, we dont know who did it. We took the cat in as a stray, she was half dead when i brought her in the house. Had her fixed, got her her shots, she got nice and fat. Throughout the day, she stayed in the house, but you just couldnt turn the stray into a full-on housecat, and she loved to be outside at night. In the morning i would call her and she would running. Then she didnt come home for two days. By day three, she was home. Had been dragging herself home from Lord knows where with a shattered leg. It had about 10 beebees and one other bullet in it. We have no idea who did it, it could have been anybody. But from now on our cats are strictly indoors.
Whamo, we've seen it all with our cats. We flush our dental floss, don't use curly ribbon on presents, won't have tinsel in the house, all the plants are hanging plants, etc.

@ Doggy.....you know your cats, when my guy got blocked up with crystals and couldn't pee he was trying to pee in the bathtub. When I went to look I saw blood and a little bit of pee. It's happened twice now and the second time I knew what was going on because he went to the tub again. It was scary and he was in crazy pain by the time I got him to the vet. He couldn't walk or anything. I had a fit looking at him not knowing what was happening!

I just read Chewi`s story and I am so sorry that you have to make a choice like this. We had to put our kitty down last year after someone shot her. There was no way i could have stayed there for it. I was bawling my eyes out when the vet told me it would be best to put her to sleep. I just couldn`t do it. Now thinking about it, I wish i did, but i had my kids with me and they really didnt understand what was going on..

It doesn't have to be. But it can be a symptom like peeing outside the box if the box is clean. That's their way of saying they have a urinary infection which can kill them in as little as 24 hours. I don't think the pooping means that but it COULD be something. Or the cat is nervous or is having a reaction to the meds he/she is on. Just ask the vet.

Chewin - I just read backwards and saw your post. I'm so sorry about your doggie. I've had to put two dogs down, and like everyone else I don't have a lot of advice to offer. I think whoever suggested you call the vet ahead of time for an overview of what will happen gave you good advice. My vet knew ahead of time and she let me spend some time with my dog before hand. She also offered to let me wait outside if I wanted (I opted to be with my dog both times). She and everyone in her office was really compassionate. I'm really sorry about your pooch.
