Ryan O'Neal Has Prostate Cancer
Woe is Ryan O'Neal AGAIN and this time it's not his fault. Ryan has had leukemia, been arrested with his son for meth possession, has a fucked up relationship with all of his children and now he's battling stage 4 prostate cancer. Stage 4 cancer sounds like some beyond serious shit, but Ryan tells People that he's undergoing treatment right now and he's not going to take a ride on Farrah Fawcett's angel hair wings anytime soon. According to Ryan, he's going to fully recover.
"Recently I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. Although I was shocked and stunned by the news, I feel fortunate that it was detected early and according to my extraordinary team of doctors the prognosis is positive for a full recovery.I am deeply grateful for the support of my friends and family during this time, and I urge everyone to get regular check-ups, as early detection is the best defense against this horrible disease that has afflicted so many."
Ryan also said that he has a book coming out May 1st.
Never mind that the phrases "early detection" and "stage 4 cancer" don't normally go together, this news come just days after Ryan shaded our earth God Oprah by blaming her for the failure of his reality show on her network. And now Ryan has cancer. Oprah, YOU WOULDN'T!?

My dad was diagnosed with stage four renal cell; went from working everyday to dead in 3 & 1/2 months.
MK's bang on about the "early detection" crap.
That said, I don't care how repugnant a human being you may be, nothing deserves to die the way my dad did. Nothing at all.
☆☆☆☆
I'm very sorry about your dad.
I can't echo your sentiment, "I don't care how repugnant a human being you may be, nothing deserves to die the way my dad did" because I hate a lot of people, and I don't care if they die slowly and painfully. Ryan O'Neal reportedly suffered from leukemia in 2001, which presumes he's had a regular oncologist for 10 years, who probably recommended regular screenings for cancers in other areas; if he is now in Stage 4 and was diagnosed in this stage, he probably ignored his doctor. He was surrounded by cancer with Farrah's death. He's 70. He has been arrested for drug possession, as recently as 2008; his kids are all fucked up on drugs; and he's probably abused alcohol and drugs his entire life. Seventy isn't a bad age to die when he has blatantly disregarded taking care of himself. I can not feel badly for this man, no matter his illness.
I don't wish cancer on anyone, but it certainly doesn't present itself as a function of deserving. Feeling ambivalent about his impending demise is not the same as wishing him pain.
My mother was diagnosed with brain cancer on a wednesday, went into a coma on friday, and after removal of her life support, took her last breath on a tuesday. Six days. I don't wish that on anyone else, but I sure as shit don't care if Ryan O'Neal doesn't fare as well.
To Karen Flatts:
Said it a million times but I'll say it again, I adore you girl. Wish you the best, always.
For those who asked in their postings: yes, Stage IV means the disease has metastasized. Prostate malignancy will frequently then spread to bladder, lung, spine, pancreas or liver.

Need to hit the sheets, but I had to post on the cancer issue. Some of the comments were really hurtful to those with family and friends battling or who have battled this disease in whatever form. I love MK and the posters that offer their humor and snark. But lets stay away from wishing cancer on anyone and hurting the loved ones that support those going through it with them.

THIS!!! omg, I am so sad to think we're going to lose another Gibb soon. Maurice was my fave and it broke my heart when he died so suddenly. In memoriam (altho I am thinking good thoughts for Robin...) I will wear my gold chains and disco pants proudly, with my coke spoon waving madly in the air...okay, maybe not that last part. But I will crank my stereo with Bee Gees tunes and weep. Poor Barry, being the oldest and the last one left.

That's great news. I think over all men are really the slowest to seek treatment or even go for regular check ups. Even for myself I want to know and I don't want to know.
He also has a hairpiece, and it doesn't look like a very good one.

So sad about Robin Gibb. He does deserve an article rather than this turd. I agree, Barry was hot stuff!!!

Hey Ryan, here's a tip: My dad is a 70 year old stubborn prick. He has managed to survive TWO bouts with prostate cancer and one with colon cancer by listening to doctors advice. I have been to every holistic healer out there to help him (after all, he is the man who saved me from uterine cancer in my early 20's by making me face facts and taking me to every appointment, kicking and screaming )yet the only things that have worked have been modern science.
He is, to date, cancer free. Thanks to modern men who made the advances, but who knows who else? I thank EVERYONE who saved my dad.

I agree. I happen to love the Bee Gees and they were decent and REALLY talented guys, even if you hated the genre. Their 60s stuff was great and "You Win Again" was a soundtrack to my 80s.
And yep, I loved their disco too, even if I was only 7!
I hope he doesn't die, those were some good brothers with a great history to them.
(I also thought Barry was a sexy bastard, even in his hairy 70s days, and yep, I was still 7!)

Hekki - indiscriminate, good point. Prostate cancer scares the crap out of me because my dad has had tests where the cells show some kind of red flag, but so far he's ok and it's monitored very regularly. And I think of Johnny Ramone and Frank Zappa dying of it (weird I know, but when they died that fact stuck in my head).

Women still get colon cancer. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If it's in the family, get regularly screened.
Also, cancer's a tricky beast. The same tendency to colon cancer in one person can show up as breast cancer in another, or bladder, or prostate. They are only now starting to make the connection between seemingly different cancers (as far as location goes) and familial links.
Uh, Stage IV is NOT early detection. Ever. That's an "oh my God, I wish I'd let my doctor do the rubber glove test sooner" kind of cancer. That's serious shit. The only stage beyond that is End-stage (which means death is surely imminent).
Stage IV cancer has grown at the site, gone to the lymph nodes, and spread outside the original site and/or metastasized showing up elsewhere in the body. It's far from an easy ride as cancer goes, treatment usually involves chemotherapy, and with or without it, it's almost always a death sentence -- either from the cancer or the treatment. The only thing you can hope for is more time -- or a miracle. Some people do make it, but it's rare -- and it really depends on their personal health (the younger and stronger the better) and strength level.
Condolences to Ryan and his family because regardless of who you are and how much people may think you do or do not deserve it, cancer sucks.

I'm with those thinking he might be lying to get free publicity for his book. Sad, but I wouldn't put it past him.

My grandfather refused to get his symptoms checked out and eventually was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. This was in 1983 and since I was a kid, I don't remember a lot of what happened, but between surgery, harsh chemo and radiation, he somehow made it and is still alive today.
The bad thing is the radiation destroyed his intestines and he's always had a lot of trouble since then. He's not in very good health these days and the damage from the radiation all of those years ago hasn't helped anything.
I wish Ryan well. At least they have some newer treatments that may not be as harsh.
I can't stand Ryan O'neal but really how stupid to not have been tested for this way before stage 4.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Nice statement by his P.R. whores .... Looking forward to the day when Oprah has a "cancer scare" or is actually diagnosed with the big C. We'll be so spammed with her story of hope during tragedy and fear at the thought that she might actually die and all the WONDERFUL people she's met during the tragedy and the challenge of what her dogs are going to do, blah blah blah, that we'll start hoping Iran actually does have nukes.
You watch. He will milk this, no matter how serious it is or gets, and will weasel his way into a reality show about his "spiritual journey".
