Heavy D Has Passed Away
Heavy D, the former leader of Heavy D and the Boyz, died suddenly at around 1pm in L.A. this afternoon after he was found lying unconscious in front of his house. There aren't many details, but TMZ says that he was breathing and talking when ambulances arrived. But by the time they got him to the hospital, he had already floated up to the great big limousine in the sky. Heavy D was only 44.
Heavy D and the Boyz's first album came out in 1987, but he really filled a million ear drums with "Now That We Found Love" in 1991. Heavy D also performed the theme songs for both In Living Color and MADtv. When he wasn't making music, he acted in TV shows like Roc and in movies like The Cider House Rules and Tower Heist (yes, I'm already blaming Brett Ratner for this).
Since nowadays our final Tweet is our final public word, here's Heavy D's:

Sadness. And it looks like he was in much better shape recently. Maybe he had damaged his heart irreparably being so big for so long? :(
An update on my comment: Yes, he had lost weight, but was reportedly back up to 344 pounds at the time of his death. That can definitely cause irreparable damage. My guess is still heart attack.
Sad news. :(
One of the guys who made good hip hop before that meant having to rap about what type of gun you were packing, how many drugs you sold and how nasty the bitches fucking you are.
I'm a child of the 80s, so this makes me feel super old :-/
RIP Heavy, you'll be missed
This makes me so sad. I loved his music growing up. His songs and videos were fun, loved his dancing. He was definitely one of the more positive influences in my life back then. Way too young!
:( That's all I got.
Heavy D was the shit!!! He was an all around talented entertainer, rapper, producer, and a great person. I saw him last month on the BET Hip Hop Awards and he blew all them young fools out the water...he still looked and moved like it was 1991....RIP
Joe Frazier and Heavy D.... :( Two people that made others smile with their talent and dedication to their craft. I remember going to this cheesy teen club in grades 6-8 and every time Heavy D's music came on, we'd all be on the dance floor, happy and doing some horrid looking dance moves.
R.I.P. I hope God was waiting for Heavy D with some heavenly bling....so sad...
You guys said it all about Heavy D. Definitely one of the last of the gentlemen rappers. He was always positive and when he saw the tide of how rap was getting more violent, he went on to bigger and better things.
RIP Overweight Lover. Keep the angels dancing with your music.

*Sobs*
This is so sad. I loved his positive music.
So weird that this news has made be so sad. Didn't expect to be so affected. K-DAY here in LA did a tribute to Heavy D tonight and some other rappers and singers were calling in to talk about him and how much his music influenced them and what a great guy he was. The last guest was Lazy Bone from Bone Thugs In Harmony and he spoke about Heavy D's music being the soundtrack of his high school life and how he got to see him perform at the BET awards last month and how excited he was to meet one of his musical heros. Before he hung up he dedicated their song "Crossroads" to him. It totally gave me a lump in my throat. Such a sad, sad thing when anyone goes but such a sad, surreal thing when it's some close to your age that you grew up listening to. RIP Heavy D. You will be missed.
i remember him acting in boston public too. he was the counselor
Ugh, this makes my heart ache. Will definitely be missed, loved, and remembered. RIP
Hey, turd box, I don't know the television!
This is all too suspicious weird.

Apparently Joe Frazier (boxing) died last night. I just read about it in our local paper.

Another lost, way too young--and only the good die young, it seems.
All I can think of is sudden stroke or a clot in this case--any cause yet? Some people are genetically high risk for it, and it strikes suddenly and fatally. I know--just got the Berkeley test and have the gene, so I take meds, precautions. My doc nailed the diagnosis in time for me. If you have a history in your family, you might want to look into that test. Silent killer-and regular blood screenings will NOT pick it up.
Peace, all, and RIP, H.D. You were loved.
Fair is foul and foul is fair..
RIP Heavy D...you'll always be in the soundtrack of my childhood.
Damn, that is so sad especially because it was so unexpected. R.I.P. Heavy D

Always loved "Now That We Found Love" and "Jam" is still one of my funky favorites! Sounds like his heart gave out - way too young.
don't forget Heavy D did the theme for "In Living Color"...all of them.
very sad...RIP Heavy.
Awwww, this is so sad. He was the first rapper whose music actually had a swing to it. A shame rap music took a harder edge later on, he wasn't that type of rapper. Loved his music. The Overweight Lover is no longer in the house. Bum dit da diddly diddly deeee... R.I.P.

He wrote Jam which he performed with MJ. He's collabo'd with Janet Jackson (Alright) Mary J. and Queen Latifa Hell he helped usher in P Diddy and the whole bad Boy era.
And he had a recurring role on Queen Latifa's show "Living Single" I used to LOVE that show!
Heavy was part of the golden age of hip hop. His music was fun but never corny.
RIP

Well-said. (Although I was never thrilled about the Diddy part.)
RIP Heavy D. Your music brought me much joy.

So sad. He is from my town, and growing up, whenever Now That We Found Love came on, my middle school friends and I would love the Mt V shout out.
Am I hallucinating, or is that a giant penis on the balcony around the 1:17 mark of that video?
Update: nevermind. It was just the girl's knee with a nasty shadow around the top.
Never heard of this slut, but when I read "1991", I knew the song would be really good. I recognize the music, and now I know the name of it and who did it. Thanks for the song Heavy D. I don't know if tacky early 90's gay clubs are your idea of heaven or hell, but I sure hope that's what it's like when I get there.
He seemed like a decent person. RIP Heavy D.
Andy Rooney, Joe Frazier and Heavy D. I think that's 3.

Nice interview with Heavy D. SUCH a good guy. Fabulous flow, great dancer, and all that, but also a great songwriter and producer. He produced for a lot of people and did a lot of acting, so the man was keeping busy.
RIP, Heavy D.
:(
Such sad news. He was a great entertainer and positive brotha. I loved his music and his aura. He was definitely "Heavy" in mind and spirit.

I really liked him in The Cider House Rules. Damn, what a young age to pass away -- while Paris Hilton and the Kuntrashians continue to scurry around the world like attention-seeking cockroaches.

Man, that`s some sad shit right there. Talented guy. Don`t know what he was up to lately, but eitherway, 44 is WAY too young to go.
RIP, Heavy. Hug the shit out of your loved ones every day, fellow D-listers. They can be gone so quickly.
And watch, the fucking Kardashians will live to be 105.
