Adam Rippon Turned Down A Winter Olympics Correspondent Gig With NBC

If you happen to be in PyeongChang and see a gleefully prancing pompadour around the NBC studios today, leave it be! It’s Johnny Weir basking in job security because, despite reports Adam Rippon would take on a role as a Winter Olympics correspondent for NBC for the remainder of the games, he has decided to turn down the job offer.

Adam tweeted that he was offered a correspondent gig by NBC for the rest of the Winter Olympics, but decided to forego the check because taking the job would have meant leaving Team USA and moving out of Olympic Village, which nobody in their right mind should do since it just sounds like a United Nations of athlete humping after your competition is over.

In the most 2018 of ways ever, Adam found out about the job offer from Twitter. His team initially said, “Gurl, yes” to the post. NBC clearly got excited about it because they were already releasing promos about how he was going to take viewer questions and appear on a variety of the network’s broadcast and digital platforms. He showed up on Today earlier to explain how it was team spirit.

“My friends and my teammates they were there for me through all of my events and I owe it to them to stand by their side and be there for them during their events. That’s so important because I’m ‘America’s sweetheart’ now, but I came here an athlete. And I am representing my country and to do that to the best of my ability I have to be there for my teammates… Just wait five days!”

Adam has attracted the love (and thirst) of Reese Witherspoon, Sally Field, and every kween in my friend circle, so it makes sense NBC would try and employ him to drive the ratings. But I guess Good Morning America will not walk away empty-handed. They’ll now have a lock on Mike Pence and his family’s viewership for forever if Today still manages to sign Adam.
