Psychedelics used as therapeutic treatment isn’t new, but Jaden Smith recently talked about how using them helped him develop deeper empathy. It also explains his tweets! Jaden admitted that psychedelics helped his relationships with his siblings after being introduced to them by his mom Jada Pinkett-Smith, who Jaden says has been using psychedelics for a “really, really” (emphasis on “really”) long time.”
Damn- all my family does is watch Family Feud together! Jaden got candid about the Smith family’s pastime during the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver and about the effect it’s had on their relationships, as reported by USA Today:
“I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family,” he said of Jada Pinkett Smith introducing psychedelics to the rest of the famous Smith crew. “It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved and everybody found it in their own ways.”
Smith, 24, credits his psychedelics use with helping him find a deep empathy for his siblings: sister Willow Smith, 22, and half-brother Trey Smith, 30.
“Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past,” he said. “But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the (psychedelic) experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful.”
Talk about a family trip they’ll never forget! Has this been the Smith family’s secret to overcoming entanglements, Oscars slaps, and every other embarrassing thing that comes outta that family’s mouth?? (Honorable mention to the time Jaden asked to be emancipated at 15 years old because the movie he and Will Smith co-starred in, After Life, bombed at the box office.)
Will reportedly took ayahuasca 14 times during a separation from Jada. And a couple of years ago, Jada talked about using “plant medicine” to treat depression via Entertainment Tonight:
Jada shares that she was introduced to plant medicine 10 years ago to deal with depression and says the treatment “knocked it out,” unlike going to therapy and being put on Prozac, “It’s not successful for everybody,” she says of going the traditional route. “I struggled with depression for so long. And the thing about the plant medicine is it helps you feel better but also solves the problems of how you got there in the first place.”
Well, since psychedelics seemed to help Jaden be more empathetic, then instead of slapping down Chris Rock at the Oscars, Will Smith should’ve handed Chris a bunch of shrooms.
