Open Post: Hosted By The Dog Parade For A Man’s 100th Birthday

Despite all the cons of getting older, the birthday party is one of the best things about adding another year to your life. Forcing a group of Chili’s servers to sing a knock-off version of Happy Birthday to me while I blow out a candle on a crumbling molten lava cake? Perfection. But some birthdays are better than others. To make retired college dean and dog lover Dr. Robert Moore’s Big 100 extra special, his family devised a cunning plan: host a dog parade!
To help coordinate the parade, the family asked the neighborhood to take part. They thought they’d only get a few canines to join in because when was the last time your neighbor did anything nice for you? However, it looks like people love birthdays and parades because everyone and their dog showed up! via People:
However, to their astonishment, nearly 200 dogs of all shapes and sizes came to wish Dr. Moore a happy birthday, according to NBC Bay Area. The dogs were dressed in costumes ranging from tuxedos to cowboy hats. Some arrived in classic cars.
Classic cars? These are some fancy ass dogs!
Dr. Moore was overjoyed by the canine procession and petted every dog that came by. Many canine attendees brought gifts for the man — cupcakes, flowers, posters, and drawings. The 100-year-old — known to family and friends as “the dog whisperer” — could name all the breeds.
“My father, he was so touched. He pet [sic] every single dog that came through. Every person brought the dog up to him. It was so lovely,” Moore’s daughter, Alison Moore, told NBC Bay Area.
“This is probably the biggest thing that’s happened in our family that’s given us the most joy,” his other daughter, Vickie, added.

Now my chain restaurant celebration seems pale in comparison to this birthday bash. I suppose next year I can ask my neighbors to put on dog show for me, but it’s likely the only response I’ll receive is, “Bitch, you’re almost 40! Organize your own boring party!”
