A Politician Filed “Official Grievance” Over Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Skipping Over Canada

While the American impression of Canada is a haven of free healthcare, low unemployment rates, and an unusually friendly social nature, don’t be fooled! Like any country, the Great White North has its problems: violations of the rights of marginalized groups, abuses by Canadian mining companies, and the most pressing matter of them all; not a single tour date has been announced yet for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour! This is why Canadian MP Matt Jeneroux is filing an “official grievance” with the House of Commons “on behalf of all Swifties,” calling on Taylor Swift to reconsider and bring her Eras Tour to Canada. Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Canadians can rest easy knowing their tax dollars are being spent fighting the good fight of bringing T-Swift to the Canadian people. Taylor is currently halfway through her Eras Tour, but that’s just enough time for MP Jeneroux to make his case, as reported by CTV:

“It has come to my attention that despite much anticipation, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has neglected to include any Canadian dates or locations as she released her international dates, with includes stops throughout Asia and Europe,” Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux wrote in a letter addressed to House Speaker Anthony Rota on Wednesday.

The pop superstar announced international tour dates for the Eras Tour on Tuesday. Swift has international shows planned in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia, but no Canadian dates were announced.

Jeneroux makes the point that bringing the Eras Tour would help local economies since there’s been a noticeable uptick in tourism within the cities Taylor performs in, according to Complex:

“Not only is this leaving Canadian fans without the opportunity to see her tour, but it is also leaving Canada out of the economic opportunities her shows generate. It is estimated that these shows could generate $4.6 billion for local economies. Fans just don’t simply attend concerts, they spend money at local businesses including hotels, restaurants and shops.”

While Canadian Swifties feel seen by their government, other Canadians seem to be side-eyeing Jeneroux to the 9th degree:

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the rest of the salty countries that didn’t get Eras tour dates brought this to the UN!
