The Man Who Threw His Phone At Bebe Rexha’s Face Says He Thought It Would Be “Funny”

On Sunday night, Bebe Rexha was performing a sold-out concert in New York when a “fan” chucked his phone at her face. Poor Bebe collapsed, and crew members rushed onstage to escort her to safety. The 33-year-old singer needed three stitches to close the wound above her eye. Yesterday, she posted a selfie of her injury, with the caption, “Im good”. The (alleged) assailant has been identified as 27-year-old Nicholas Malvagna from New Jersey. According to Rolling Stone (via Uproxx), he told police that he purposely threw his phone cuz “he thought it would be funny.”
Here’s the video of Bebe getting injured:

And here is a LinkedIn photo of the man who thinks throwing objects at peoples’ faces is the absolute height of comedy (one word: eyebrows):
Nicolas Malvagna, the man who threw a phone at Bebe Rexha, spoke out:
“I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny.”

As soon as Bebe was hit by the phone, fans in the audience shouted stuff like, “That’s assault!” A fan video shows concert security identifying a smirking Nicholas and pulling him over the stage barrier. Later, Nicholas was taken into custody, and last night, he was arraigned. He’s been charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, one count of harassment in the second degree, one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree, and one count of attempted assault in the third degree. via Rolling Stone:
According to the The Manhattan District Attorney’s office, Malvagna not only confessed to throwing the phone. He also stated, “I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny.”
But the New York Post reports Nicholas told the arresting officers that he did it as part of a TikTok trend:
“It’s a TikTok trend where you throw your phone onto the stage, and a celebrity passes it and takes a selfie,’” Nicholas Malvagna, 27, told arresting officers, according to Manhattan prosecutor Stephan Millan at the man’s arraignment Monday night.
“‘I thought she was looking in my direction. I was about two rows back, but instead of my phone landing right next to her, my phone hit her in the face,’” Malvagna told cops.
Either way, not cool. Now, I don’t know much about Bebe Rexha, but last week, Twitter was joking that tickets to her tour were dirt cheap. Their tone was ~*mocking*~, to put it mildly:

But, since Bebe’s injury, Twitterers have done a 180. After Bebe confirmed she’s resuming her tour, people said they’d buy tickets to support her. And Nicholas is Public Enemy #1:

Definitely Bebe Rexha and right now she needs our online support more than ever.

Even if security hadn’t immediately identified Nicholas, it wouldn’t have been hard to figure out whose phone it was. Dude may as well have hurled his driver’s license at Bebe. Or a sign that says, “My name is Nicholas Malvagna (the one with the eyebrow situation)!!”
