Kevin Costner Reportedly Got Into It With A Guest House Tenant Who Got Close With His Estranged Wife

More Kevin Costner divorce drama. Last week, we learned Christine Baumgartner was refusing to vacate the couple’s Carpinteria, California mansion, despite the terms of their prenup. Now, the plot thickens… there’s another man (errr, kinda): Costners’ ex-tenant, tech entrepreneur Daniel Starr. According to the Sun, Daniel rented the guest house on Kevin and Christine’s estate. A source claims Christine and Daniel “hung out a lot” while Kevin was away filming, but in the winter, they had a “fallout.” When Kevin got wind of it, he “hit the roof.” Lawyers eventually got involved, and Daniel was forced to move out in March. Did Christine and Daniel’s relationship get romantic? Does this drama have anything to do with the divorce? And, I couldn’t help but wonder… can men and women really be “just friends”?? Wait, of course; they can! Sorry, I was briefly possessed by the spirit of Carrie Bradshaw.

Last June, Daniel signed a year-long lease to rent out Kevin and Christine’s beachfront guest house. His rent? $64,000 a month. Here’s what the Sun’s source said (they refer to Christine as “Chris,” so you know they’re legit):

“Daniel was really happy living in the house. It’s right on the beach and he has a four-year-old son who he wanted to feel settled. After he moved in he became close friends with Chris and Kevin. They’d hang out together with their kids. But Kevin was always away filming, so Chris must have been lonely. Chris and Daniel hung out a lot. She would come into his house almost daily.

“But there was a fallout and Kevin got wind of it. There was a row between him and Daniel and things escalated from there.”

So it wasn’t the close friendship that triggered 68-year-old Kevin; it was this mysterious falling out. The insider adds that 42-year-old Daniel is a “respectful guy” and didn’t cross any lines. But, apparently, 49-year-old Christine “didn’t like Daniel’s attitude towards their friendship.” She texted him and said, “She wanted him out.” Hmmmm. Vague. Confusing. Tells us nothing. The source claims Daniel reacted by trying to “calm the situation”:

“Daniel was really upset. He loved living there and felt he’d done nothing wrong. That’s when he brought his lawyer in.” Daniel had a close relationship with all of Kevin’s children, the source said, particularly his older son Joe, 35.

They continued: “Daniel thought really highly of Kevin and thought he was an excellent father to his kids. But Kevin hit the roof and sided with his wife. Ultimately, he wasn’t willing to hear Daniel out.”

*Googles to see if Kevin’s oldest son is gay… finds nothing. Back to story.* Unfortunately for Daniel, things didn’t work out in his favor. He left the house in March, three months shy of the end of his lease. Neither party has officially commented on these allegations. For all we know, this has nothing to do with the divorce, and “Chris” was just pissed that Kevin smoked cigarettes inside, refused to mow the lawn, or was a secret hoarder. It’s a mystery. But, again, I’m not not interested in the “Kevin’s son had a torrid affair with his tenant” theory. Baseless? Yes. Funner? Also yes.
