Jane Fonda Spilled On Her Past Co-Stars Including Robert Redford And Michael Douglas

Jane Fonda is BUSY. And I’m not talking about the press tours she’s been doing for her new film Book Club: The Next Chapter or the recent blitz for 80 for Brady. Having been invited to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, Jane decided it was high time to bring some drama to France. Not only did she spill the tea regarding some of her very famous co-stars, but she also showed off her throwing arm by chucking a Palme d’Or scroll at a winner during the ceremony! I guess you stop giving a damn about everything once you hit 80.

During her session titled Rendez-Vous with Jane Fonda, Jane unloaded her views on fellow actors such as Robert Redford, Michael Douglas, and Katharine Hepburn. While most of her former co-stars got away unscathed, the actress had some choice words to say about Robert. via Deadline:

Speaking at the Rendezvous with Jane Fonda event at the Salle Buñuel, the two-time Oscar winner said she “was in love with” Redford, her leading man in four films including Barefoot in the Park, and The Electric Horseman. But in a kiss-and-tell disclosure, she said of Redford, “He did not like to kiss,” referring, presumably, to film roles with her. She added, “I never said anything [to him about it]. And he’s always in a bad mood, and I always thought it was my fault.”

She added, “He’s a very good person. He just has an issue with women.” She did not elaborate and the moderator did not follow up.

Damn. This is why you have to be a good kisser. You never know if someone 40 years later may put you on blast for being lousy at it. Jane got over being in love with the veteran actor and his grumpiness in 2017 when they filmed Our Souls at Night.

More charitably, she said Redford possesses a good sense of humor, if not punctuality. “The last movie I made with him was six years ago [Our Souls at Night]. What was I, about 80 years old or something like that. And I finally knew I had grown up. When he would come on the set three hours late in a bad mood, I knew it wasn’t my fault.” Nonetheless, she said, “We always had a good time.”

Jane then moved on to director Jean-Luc Godard:

Regarding French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who directed her in 1972’s Tout Va Bien, she said, “He was a great filmmaker. I take my hat off. A great filmmaker. But as a man? I’m sorry. No, no.”

On Katharine Hepburn:

“All three of us [father Peter Fonda, Katherine Hepburn, and Jane Fonda] were nominated for Oscars, me for supporting, her for Best Actress, my dad for Best Actor. I didn’t win. And they did,” she recalled. “And I called [Hepburn] up to congratulate her and she said, ‘You’ll never catch me!’” She said she didn’t think Hepburn liked her.

On Michael Douglas:

She also said she felt Michael Douglas, her co-star in The China Syndrome, “probably doesn’t like me” either, but possesses the diplomatic skill to hide it, a tactful style that she says she lacks.

I guess if she’s liable to run her mouth, I can understand why some fellow actors might have issues with Jane’s conduct. And she might have made a new enemy with her unhinged behavior. During the much-awaited Cannes award ceremony, Jane was given the honor of presenting the Palme d’Or to Justine Triet, just the third woman to win the top prize. What started out normally turned bizarre when Jane lobbed the scroll at Justine. via TMZ:

The actress was on hand Saturday at Cannes, where the the Palme d’Or was awarded to French filmmaker Justine Triet for her flick, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ — with JF announcing her as the winner and there to give her the actual prize … a scroll/certificate with her name on it.

… after Triet accepted the award and gave a heartfelt speech, she started heading back to the nearby bleachers onstage where the rest of her team was, as she was prepared to give a round of hugs. Only problem — she forgot the actual award at the podium!

After quickly realizing it was a lost cause and that Triet wasn’t coming back for it anytime soon, Jane stopped in her tracks just chucked the thing at her … and it made contact.

Take a look at Jane’s hail mary pass:

If there’s a person who knows how to get press, it’s Jane. She’s been at it for over 60 years; she knows what she’s doing!
