Whoopi Goldberg Snaps At “The View” Producer On Air While Dissing ABC’s “American Idol”

If Whoopi Goldberg isn’t putting her foot in her mouth on ABC’s The View, are you really watching The View? During yesterday’s live show, the five hosts, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, and of course, Whoop, started picking apart the term “sugar baby” while discussing Netflix’s new documentary Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me. That somehow snowballed into Whoopi dragging American Idol and then getting testy with The View’s producer Brian Teta after he jumped into the conversation to remind her that the show she’s dragging through the dirt is on the same network as her show.

The ball got rolling after Alyssa laid down her disapproval of making an Anna Nicole Smith doc, saying, “I don’t know why we have to, like, dwell in woman’s suffering,” then questioning, “Why do we have to, like, watch her suffer post-humously?” So Whoop was like, “People like to be judgy.” DUH! Then she used American Idol as the scapegoat for kicking off the “downfall of society,” as reported via Entertainment Weekly:

“I think that we, as a society, love to watch stuff to judge folks. I’ve always thought that the beginning of the downfall of society was with, what’s the name of that show?” she said, turning off camera to address Teta. He responded, “ABC’s American Idol?” emphasizing the fact that both shows share the same network.

Goldberg continued, stressing that the show was “not always on” ABC. (American Idol aired on Fox from 2002 to 2016.)

“Once we gave people the ability to judge other people, I think we ran amok with it,” Goldberg continued. “And it’s gone out of control. They invited the public to decide who that person was and I feel once we did that, it began us in a cycle which we have not…” Goldberg then paused to scold Teta for an unknown action. “… did you really just do that?”

“I’m saying, we’ve talked about this, that it’s gotten better, you like it now. Remember?” Teta said when the camera switched to show him.

Sunny Hostin jumped in. “You like it. ABC, she likes it. ABC, she loves it. It’s really good,” Hostin said, but Goldberg soldiered on with her thought.

Here’s a clip of the whole conversation:

What in the hostage situation?? Brian- blink twice if you’re in danger!! Whoopi eventually backtracked, saying that “it’s a very different show” now that it’s under ABC instead of Fox. And she’s right because it used to be a show everyone watched, and now it’s in its flop era!
