Open Post: Hosted By The News That A “Freaky Friday” Sequel Is Officially In The Works
Last year, while Jamie Lee Curtis prepared to bring Angela Bassett to tears at the Oscars and Lindsay Lohan hoped for a lucrative payday in 2023, it was announced they both would be open to a Freaky Friday sequel. Why? I have no idea, but since Disney knows how to get a bag, this sequel is happening. And just in case you’re thinking they may scrap this idea once they realize we’ve already seen this movie just know it is officially in production and coming to our screens very soon.
Jamie Lee may have won her first Oscar but apparently she won’t let that stop her from shimmying back to Disney for this opportunity to restart Lindsay’s comeback career. Because with a baby on the way Lindsay needs this to happen so she can afford diapers for her nannies. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, both ladies are ready to reprise their roles of a mother and daughter who wake up in each other’s bodies, and I hope they update the concept a bit for this new film. Because as a senior citizen who wakes up in her daughter’s thirty-something body, her first thought should be all of the hot guys she can make out with. While the daughter who wakes up in her mom’s body should head straight to every place that offers senior discounts before returning to her original body at the stroke of midnight (or whenever the curse gets broken).
Lohan and Curtis are expected to reprise their roles as a mother and daughter who wake up one Friday and find they have swapped bodies. Elyse Hollander is penning the script to the sequel.
Curtis told the New York Times in a retrospective on the 2003 film that she continued to get questions about a Freaky Friday sequel while promoting her 2022 horror film, Halloween Ends.
“Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made,’ ” said Curtis.
And how does Lindsay feel about this? Well, if she wasn’t pregnant, she would be doing backflips and cartwheels into work everyday since she’s getting that Disney check again. And she already spoke on how she and Jamie work well together and were excited at the idea of a potential sequel.
Said Lohan to the Times of a potential sequel: “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
If this project becomes affected by the writer’s strike, Disney doesn’t have to worry. With the amount of money on the line, I can guarantee you Lindsay will write this whole thing herself if she has to.
