Open Post: Hosted By Jennifer Coolidge Shouting Out The Striking Writers At The MTV Movie & TV Awards

Even though Drew Barrymore dropped out of hosting last night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards in solidarity with the WGA writers’ strike, the show went on (in a pre-recorded virtual ceremony)! And what it lacked in host, it more than made up for in remote acceptance speeches from Jennifer Coolidge. She picked up two golden popcorn awards: the Comedic Genius Award and Most Frightened Performance (such an important honor) for The White Lotus. At the end of her first acceptance speech, Jennifer voiced her support for the striking writers and proved that her kooky bimbo persona is just an act by quoting Shakespeare.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Jennifer’s acceptance speech for the Comedic Genius Award was pre-recorded and shown after a montage of clips of some of her most iconic roles. She thanked MTV, pointing out that the award was extra special cuz she used to be in the Groundlings with other winners, Melissa McCarthy and Will Ferrell. Jennifer added that she’s thrilled with her golden popcorn award because popcorn is her favorite food. Then, she got serious:
You know, almost all great comedy starts with great writers. And I just think that, as a proud member of SAG, you know, I stand here before you tonight… side by side with my sisters and brothers from the WGA that are fighting right now, fighting for the rights of artists everywhere.
And I think of the words of Shakespeare, where he once said, “The play is the thing.” Well, I don’t wanna put words in his mouth or anything, but what I think, what he really meant is… it’s everything!
And with that, Jennifer began dancing to House of Pain’s “Jump Around.” Here’s the speech:

I just realized that without writers like Mike White, how long will it be until we get to see White Lotus season 3, set in Thailand?? And experience the Thai remix of that banger theme song? Studios, give those writers everything they want. You have a responsibility to the desperate people of Planet Earth!
