Jennifer Lopez’s Mother Has Been Praying For Twenty Years That Her Daughter Would Reunite With Ben Affleck
As children, most of our parents want nothing but the best for our lives because they love us. This may not be the case with Jennifer Lopez and her mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez, because there may be love, but there clearly are no good intentions. I’m not sure what made J. Lo pack her belongings and ride that 6 train from the Bronx into international superstardom, but it probably had something to do with the goals Guadalupe instilled in her from the beginning. And one of those must have been “Make sure you find and KEEP a toxic man” because after JLo escaped Ben Affleck, Guadalupe lit a candle and prayed fervently for two decades that he would return to JLo’s unsuccessful love life. And it worked!
NBC News reports during the year when we’re getting tours from Taylor Swift and the upcoming ‘Run Them Pockets‘ multi-city shakedown from Beyoncé, we can also look forward to a brand new album from JLo. And during an interview on TODAY with Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, JLo talked about her new album, This Is Me…Now. It documents JLo’s journey of motherhood and repurposed love with Ben through the medium she’s yet to master vocally; music.
“I went on an incredible journey through my life for past 20 years, and I think I’ve grown a lot. The album is really about capturing those moments in time. Falling in love and having that moment, then 20 years later trying to capture what this moment was, which was a very different thing,” she said.
As to whether love is better the second time around? Lopez grappled with the question.
“I think when you have life experience behind you, you realize what’s really important. I love what I do. I have always said that, but since I had kids, that changed for me. Now, having a family in this way and being married, you start rejiggering everything. What is really important? How much do I want to work?” she said. “You start realizing what I want to do with my life.”
And speaking of love, we all know JLo has quickly become our generation’s Elizabeth Taylor with a collection of marriages that will be studied by divorce lawyers for many years to come. But one person who knew she was wasting her time with everyone else was Guadalupe, who voiced her opinions from the sidelines as J. Lo tried to convince us her love with Ben is the fairytale she pretends it is.
Rodríguez accompanied J.Lo for an appearance Wednesday on the “TODAY” show and talked about the singer’s rekindled relationship with Affleck — which, according to her mom, was a long time coming.
“I knew that you would always get back together because I prayed for 20 years,” Rodríguez said on “TODAY.”
Lopez playfully nodded and said, “OK,” as if she had heard that one before. “Jennifer said, ‘Let’s keep going,’” host Hoda Kotb said after Rodríguez’s interjection, laughing.
That “let’s keep going” was Guadalupe’s reminder JLo will promptly ship her ass back to The Bronx! (Bronx) if she doesn’t shut her lips about her current situationship with Ben. But I think Guadalupe is the real winner here for praying Ben back into JLo’s life with a simple incantation that probably involved just one word: Karma.
