Janelle Monáe Went From Overdressed To Damn Near Naked During Her Entrance At The Met Gala

For this year’s Met Gala, most guests understood the assignment as they left the confusing yet attention-grabbing costumes of yore behind for a taste of opulence and glamour. Let’s not forget this year’s theme was an evening of tribute titled Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty, and Kunty Karl would have delighted in many of the clean looks that sashayed up and down the ivory carpet. But one ensemble gave viewers a bit of anxiety as they wondered why Rosie the Robot from The Jetsons was invited this year. But it wasn’t Rosie at all. Instead, it was futuristic fashionista Janelle Monáe coming to bless us all with not one but TWO shocking looks that became the talk of the evening.

Entertainment Tonight reports Janelle arrived just in time for a little shock and awe with her outfit. At first glance, it looks like a very ornate overcoat designed to keep the wind chill away. And Janelle’s overcoat was so cumbersome she enlisted the help of two well-dressed groupies to keep her upright during her trek along the treacherous steps. Every now and then, she stopped and took photos that looked like she saw someone she owed money in the crowd but couldn’t run away fast enough in that big ass coat.

But as we would all soon discover, THAT was merely a part of the drama, darling! Because Janelle came to give former What The Fuck?? Met Gala Queen Lady Gaga a run for her money with the revealing transition into her final form.

While walking up the museum’s iconic steps, Monáe stopped for what would be one of the most elaborate costume transformations of the year.

As she stood, arms outstretched, the suit-clad entourage began to pull back layers of Monáe’s ensemble, piece by piece, until eventually, she was wearing essentially a sheer wireframe gown evoking the original look.

Hopefully, as soon as Janelle got inside, she slipped into a third outfit because there was no way she could have sat down for dinner in that beautiful lampshade of a dress. And listen, I’m not a fashion dude, but I’m also not blind. This moment will go down in history as Janelle Monáe rocked the Met Gala steps in her underwear and old window screens. In other words, SUCCESS! I”m sure Kunty Karl is thankful he didn’t have to reincarnate himself into a hole in the carpet, sending Janelle rolling back down the stairs as his way of kicking her out for not honoring him correctly.
