The Second Season Of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” Will Focus On The Menéndez Brothers

Last autumn, Ryan Murphy faced backlash over his Netflix series, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Despite the controversy, the show was one of the biggest original shows in Netflix history, and the streamer ordered two more seasons. Today, Variety reported that the second season will focus on Lyle and Erik Menéndez, aka the Menéndez brothers. Those two killed their parents, José and Kitty Menéndez, in 1989 and received life in prison without parole. Hey, it’s a smart move. To avoid pissing off the victims’ families this time around, pick victims whose family members are the actual murderers.

The show will be called Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story. Netflix also revealed that they have “exclusive access” to both Lyle and Erik to participate in a separate documentary feature from Campfire Studios. Both brothers are currently incarcerated at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego. They had been imprisoned separately until 2018.

I guess Netflix isn’t the only one going Menéndez-crazy, cuz there is another new docuseries streaming on Peacock called Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed. It focuses on an allegation from Roy Rosselló, a former member of the boy band Menudo, who says he was sexually assaulted as a teenager by José. A reminder that, during the Menéndez brothers’ trial, the brothers’ lawyer argued that the men murdered their parents after José subjected them to years of sexual and physical abuse. The trial was also recently fictionalized in the 2017 NBC series “Law & Order: True Crime — The Menéndez Murders,” starring Edie Falco as defense attorney Leslie Abramson.

Here’s Netflix’s announcement video, which features the recording of Lyle calling 911 on the night of the murders:

So! The big question is, who do they get to play the Menéndez brothers? Too bad they already used Evan Peters on Dahmer, cuz he actually sorta looks like the brother on the right. Whoever it is, they need that heavy Menéndez brow. Might I suggest… the Geico cavemen?
