Meta Has Cancelled All Of Facebook Watch’s Original Programming, Leaving “Red Table Talk” To Search For A New Home

Now that Meta (the artist formerly known as Facebook) is trying to blend our lives into virtual reality, it’s finally doing away with all of the original Facebook Watch content streaming on its platform. Honestly, my first thought was, “Wait, there’s more than just Red Table Talk?” but apparently, there were tons of shows that once found their home within the graveyard of social media. Unfortunately, now that we’ve received this breaking news, it’s too late to care. But since RTT has always been one of their more popular shows, thanks to Jada Pinkett Smith‘s gut-wrenching performance as a caring talk show host, it’s currently looking around for another place where it can bring the tears and scandal once again.

According to Deadline, there have been quite a few layoffs taking place over at Meta, and one key component for all of its original programming was Mina Lefevre, Head of Development and Programming. Recently, Meta made it rain all over 20,000 of its employees with pink slips indicating their services were no longer needed. Mina was one of the causalities, and with her exit marks a new focus on meshing reality with the virtual world.

None of the remaining FB Watch Originals, most notably Red Table Talk, are coming back for new seasons as the company is getting out of that business, shifting its focus on creating VR experiences in Meta Horizon Worlds that can also be deployed across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. FB Watch remains as video player for such content, while members of Lefevre’s team, including Thomas Stockwell, are staying on to work on original programming with an emphasis on VR-first shows.

I’m sure when Jada got the news; she ferociously flipped that red table over until it crashed into a nearby wall. But luckily for her, there’s still an opportunity for RTT to find life elsewhere.

The buzzy Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, which also spawned spinoff Red Table Talk: The Estefans, was the last remaining FB Watch original. It had completed its original order and will not be coming back; series producer Westbrook, is currently looking for a new home.

I doubt Jada, her family of co-hosts, and their knack for oversharing will be away from our screens for too long. Because how can RTT go away forever without filming Jada’s dream episode where Chris Rock and Will Smith come together to “heal” and “reconcile…. while security tackles Vivica A. Fox as she tries to crash the set to give “self-righteous” Jada several pieces of her mind.
