What Year Is It Again? Fans Think Nelly And Ashanti May Have Rekindled Their Relationship
Grab your ornamental face Band-aids and/or your best sparkly going-out top with a wide-ass belt; because Nelly and Ashanti might be providing us with the early aughts nostalgia we didn’t know we needed by getting back together! Fans think the two may have pulled a “Bennifer 2.0” after they were seen arriving and sitting together at a boxing match and holding hands as they left, 20 years after they’d first started dating before being on and off for over a decade and then breaking up for good in 2013.
42-year-old Ashanti must’ve taken a break from carrying Jennifer Lopez’s singing career on her back to take a page from J. Lo’s book when it comes to grabbing the past version of herself’s sloppy (like, really sloppy, according to his sexual assault accusation tally) seconds when she and 48-year-old Nelly (and Jermaine Dupri as a third wheel) were seen taking their seats at the Gervonta Davis/Ryan Garcia fight this past weekend, intriguing many of us olds. via TMZ:
People noticed them almost instantly, and the cameras started to roll … as seeing the two of them out in public like this is a pretty rare sighting — and certainly could have implications.
It’s not like Ashanti or Nelly were trying to hide, but they did seem to be laying low a little bit. Of course, Twitter lost its s*** when another video of them leaving the main floor surfaced … which shows them holding hands. Nelly, specifically, grabs a hold of Ashanti.

And as they left the match together, they held hands:

And the next day, the two further stoked the speculation by giving a flirty performance of their song, “Body on Me,” at Tao in Las Vegas:

Just a few months ago, Ashanti was on Watch What Happens Live and responded to fans asking if she and Nelly would ever get back together. Her answer was a smiley word salad that wasn’t technically a “no,” so this isn’t totally out of left field:
But of course, when anyone’s having a good time, today’s amalgamation of Statler and Waldorf, 50 Cent, had to insert himself. Record exec/producer Irv Gotti said he and Ashanti had some kind of secret entanglement back in the day (hopefully, he wasn’t this scummy shower sex producer), and he said he was blindsided when he found out Ashanti had moved on to Nelly by seeing it on TV:

And the list of people 50 Cent hasn’t feuded with is shorter than his list of enemies, so obviously, he took this opportunity to roast his nemesis Irv on Instagram. via TMZ:
On Monday, 50 reposted Ashanti and Nelly’s weekend touchy-feely performance in Vegas but fixed his commentary and jeers on Irv … with whom the G-Unit rapper has a long-running feud.
Even though Nelly’s now reached the age where he accidentally posts his personal porn tapes on social media, here’s hoping that this is the dawning of a fresh new wave of messy early 2000s-brand celebrity happenings and not just the start of him and Ashanti also going on a years-long, multi-million dollar love nest hunt.
