Meghan Trainor Apologized For Making “Careless” Comments About Teachers On Her Podcast

About five years ago, Meghan Trainor and her Spy Kids husband, Daryl Sabara, were papped leaving a sex shop with all kinds of goods. She later explained she was just grabbing some toys for a “friend,” and apparently, that “friend” is a teacher because she recently said on her podcast that they should get fucked! Or, more specifically, “fuck teachers, dude.” But after some backlash, Meghan issued an apology for her “careless” comments and said she was just angry and was only referring to mean teachers.
When Meghan isn’t making embarrassing music videos or songs that sound like their sole purpose is to be played for sassy contestant intros at a toddler beauty pageant, she has a podcast (of course). She had YouTuber and general gross troll Trisha Paytas on last week, and they were talking about parenting and the dangers of sending kids to school in the U.S. via Us Weekly:
Trainor — who shares son Riley, 2, with husband Daryl Sabara — and her brother Ryan Trainor had welcomed influencer Trisha Paytas to their joint “Workin’ On It” podcast to chat about parenthood. Paytas, for her part, welcomed daughter Malibu with husband Moses Hacmon in September 2022.
“We’re homeschooling our kids,” the “All About that Bass” singer quipped during the Wednesday, April 19, episode. “Everyone on TikTok is like, ‘This is what it’s like having kids in America. I have a bulletproof backpack.’ I was like, fuck all that.”
Meghan was referring to the epidemic of mass shootings, with one of the recent tragedies occurring last month at Nashville’s The Covenant School, in which a 28-year-old woman opened fire in the primary school and killed three teachers and three students. Authorities later shot and killed the perpetrator on the scene.
A valid take because the gun problem here is absolutely shameful, but then Trisha agreed that she’d also be homeschooling Malibu Barbie (probably best with a name like that), and then added that teachers were part of her trauma when she was in school. That’s when Meghan piped in with a “fuck teachers, dude.”
Paytas, 34, agreed with the former Voice U.K. judge’s remarks, adding that she also worried about potential bullies and teachers. “F—k teachers, dude,” Meghan interrupted.

After a thorough e-lashing (and probably to smooth things over because she has a “TMI pregnancy book” out tomorrow), Meghan issued a lane-straddling apology and said she was heated at that moment because Trisha’s experience of being “bullied” by teachers kicked up memories of both her and her husband dealing with it too; but also she’s a huge supporter of teachers, and she doesn’t want to make excuses for what she said (after making several excuses).
“I did not mean [to say that about] all teachers,” Meghan said on Sunday. “I love teachers, I fight for teachers. I think they have the hardest job and they are the most underpaid. They are the most unappreciated when they literally raise all of us. I don’t want to make excuses, I just want to [say] I am so sorry.”
She continued: “I am so sorry to any teachers I made feel bad and I will remind myself that my words definitely could have a consequence and I will be more careful.”
Here’s the very close-up apology:
@meghantrainor @galsgotmoxie thank you for making your video and for bringing attention to this. I am sorry for being careless with my words. I LOVE teachers and I am here for you ❤️ Let’s work to make schools a better place together
I wonder which of her side-by-side toilets she sat on while shatting out that mess about what an advocate she is when all she really had to say was “sorry guys, I just meant fuck those couple of mean teachers in particular.” Meanwhile, I’m still waiting on an apology for the hypnotically agonizing “Me Too.”
