Prince Harry Was Reportedly Disappointed That His Father King Charles Didn’t Directly Invite Him To The Coronation

On this new episode of What Did You Expect?, we learn that Prince Harry wasn’t directly invited to the coronation next month by King Charles himself but instead through a last-minute, third-party email that was probably just like, “Fine, you can come.”  Despite Charles not reaching out with the invite himself, it’s rumored that the father and son have held some peace talks since Harry aired out the family’s dirty laundry in Spare.

While Harry and Charles try to hug it out like repelling magnets, Meghan Markle is skipping out on the coronation cause she’s just too darn busy with her son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday party, robbing us of the joy of examining her and Kate Middleton’s body language during the ceremony. Now with Meghan Markle out of the picture, Charles wants to get the band back together. A royal insider spilled to People that it’s Charles’ “first wish” for Harry to be at the coronation.

A source who knows the royals tells PEOPLE it would be King Charles’ “first wish” for Harry to join them at the coronation.

“Despite the wounds, it’s his son, and I can’t imagine he wouldn’t want him to be there regardless of the hurtful things that have been said,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith adds.

For Prince Harry, his solo appearance at the coronation has everything to do with his desire to have, as he has stated, a “family, not an institution.”

“This is about a son showing up for his father rather than the optics of the institution,” the close friend says.

That insider also claims that Harry was hoping to get a personal eVite from the belle of the coronation ball himself, but that didn’t happen.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received an email about the royal event from Charles’ office — and not from Harry’s father himself — it became clear that the “sit-down” the prince sought to talk through their issues following the release of his memoir Spare wasn’t going to happen, a close friend tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s cover story.

“They didn’t hear from Charles. Harry wanted to hear from his father directly — it’s always through somebody,” the friend says.

The Telegraph adds that while Harry and King Charles have had “peace talks” about patching things up, Harry and Prince William still haven’t talked, and William wants nothing to do with Harry right now. So at the coronation, Harry will probably be focused on his watch, counting down the minutes until he can get out of that bitch while his relatives try their damn hardest not to make eye contact with him. Isn’t that most family reunions, though?!
