Megan Thee Stallion Opens Up About The Tory Lanez Shooting In An Essay For Elle Magazine

Last year, Megan Thee Stallion was forced to re-live the night balding, belligerent troll Tory Lanez assaulted her inside a vehicle with a gunshot to her foot in July of 2020. What followed for the next few years were people calling Meg a liar and siding with the Oompa Loompa, who tried to laugh off what he did and smear her name through the mud. Now that he’s preparing for an extended stay on the Island of Misfit Toys (AKA prison), Meg is finally opening up about the ordeal in an essay with Elle Magazine. And she wants everyone to know she may have been galloping and high stomping on the outside, but inside, she was sadder than a pony on its way to the glue factory.

Although she doesn’t name names, we all know who she’s talking about, and Meg wastes no time getting into the trauma she endured after that night. She starts by letting everyone know she is nobody’s victim. Then she states how hard it was to be assaulted by someone she once considered a friend, but then for them to discredit what happened to make it look like she was the one who was lying felt like the ultimate betrayal.

For years, my attacker laughed and joked about my trauma. For years, my attacker peddled false narratives about what happened on the night of July 12, 2020. For years, my attacker tried to leverage social media to take away my power. Imagine how it feels to be called a liar every day? Especially from a person who was once part of your inner circle.

The debate on what exactly transpired between Tory and Meg was split between those who believed her and those, like Drake, who hopped on the Tory bandwagon. Having to endure this turmoil in the public eye was something else Meg said bothered her, but knowing that people didn’t believe her hurt the most.

It never crossed my mind that people wouldn’t believe me. Still, I knew the truth and the indisputable facts would prevail. I had worked way too hard to reach this point in my career to let taunts deter me. When the guilty verdict came on Dec. 23, 2022, it was more than just vindication for me, it was a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them.

But my heart hurts for all the women around the world who are suffering in silence, especially if you’re a Black woman who doesn’t appear as if she needs help. So many times, people looked at me and thought, “You look strong. You’re outspoken. You’re tall. You don’t look like somebody who needs to be saved.” They assumed that, per preconceived stigmas, “I didn’t fit the profile of a victim,” and that I didn’t need support or protection.

At the end of the essay, Meg gave a much-needed shout to any woman who has been through the same thing, saying in part, “You matter. You are not at fault. You are important. You are loved. You are not defined by your trauma. You can continue to write beautiful, new chapters to your life story. Just because you are in a bad situation doesn’t mean you are a bad person.” And while she’s quickly becoming Megan THEE Motivational Speaker, Tory is washing his ratty man wigs inside a jail cell toilet awaiting sentencing. And somehow, that’s still not a good enough punishment for his crime.
