Chris Pratt Says He Understands Why People Have So Many Opinions About Him Voicing Mario In “The Super Mario Brothers Movie”

Once again, Hollywood has decided to release its lucrative golden shower all over one of our beloved childhood memories; the Super Mario Bros. franchise. And while we all want to have high hopes for this latest attempt of tugging at our hearts and purse strings, there’s only one aspect that makes it hard to accept; Chris Pratt. He’s already made the eye-roll-inducing comment that his portrayal of Mario will elevate him to the Meryl Streep of voice actors, with many Mario fans ready to rip him to shreds when if he fucks it up. Well, Chris already knew he was going to face backlash, and he honestly understands why people’s opinions about his portrayal are so strong.
Uproxx reports Chris is excited for everyone to hear his new and updated version of Mario, which isn’t the ITS-UH-ME-UH-MARIO voice everyone was afraid it would be. Chris Pratt’s Mario pretty much sounds like Mario. Many called out Chris’ casting, and he’s grateful for that.
“Oh, I totally get it, man. There’s a passionate fan base and I’m one of the fans. I get it. Mostly, people don’t want something like this to get screwed up. They’re precious about it. They’re careful. And I’m grateful for that,” Pratt replied.
Here’s a little cut of Chris’ vocal cords playing the part of Super Mario:

Translation: “You can all suck it because the check cleared months ago!” I doubt Chris really cares what we think since, whether we like it or not, he’s the Mario we’re getting. But his co-star Charlie Day, who will be voicing Mario’s brother Luigi, understands it’s very important for them to realize Mario’s legacy and do it justice with their performances.
“I think Super Mario Bros., really, when you think about what a video game does for people, it is a place to escape to…So in many ways, the game had taken care of people, I think, in a way that they don’t want the franchise messed up at all. So I think they’ll be really happy when they see the movie two, three, maybe four times in the theater.”
Translation: “WE NEED A $EQUEL! Get your asses to the theater and make it happen!” And during an exclusive interview with CBR, Chris may have hinted that we’ll get to experience his rendition of Mario again in the near future.
“Listen, there’s like, at the end of the film, there’s a post-credit sequence that gives you a taste of what the sequel could be about. And that gets me very, very excited.
And there you have it. Chris has officially gone from Star-Lord to Star-Man, but at least we won’t have to actually see him. That’s the best takeaway from this entire experience.
