Artificial Intelligence is the next unregulated industry for the tech bros to destroy humanity with. They already did the damn thing with social media, but now it’s time to insert dee fakes, holograms, AI content creation, and a whole manner of other bullshit into the mix! And one company excited to do this–but in a “woke” way–is Levi’s, who announced plans to use more AI content to diversify their jeans models. And now they’ve also quickly clarified that they will still be hiring actual real-life ethnic people, too!–Not just the fake ones.
Business Insider says that Levi’s announced a partnership this week with the company, Lalaland.ai, which is a Black-owned AI company. Levi’s said of the partnership:
“With these body-inclusive avatars, the company aims to create a more inclusive, personal, and sustainable shopping experience for fashion brands, retailers, and customers.”
Of course, the internet got to Levi’s before they could clarify their idiocy:
Feel like this has been the clearest illustration of how diversity doesn't equate to inclusion https://t.co/CmsNfgoxka

So instead of increasing diversity by hiring actual Black and Brown models, Levi's is going to get AI models. The conversation around diversity has hit the "jumped the shark" level. Cuz WTF. https://t.co/kdZvMzTtOL

When companies fall onto Ai hype trains without thinking about actual real world consequences and implications you get this…idiocy@LEVIS @LeviStraussCo #FAKEDiversity #AiDiversityIsntDiversity #Duh https://t.co/ggyRns7dCs

So now Levi’s is clarifying that these AI people of color are not a “means to advance diversity” and won’t replace any actual diversifying of their company. They put out a statement that says that they are absolutely still going to hire POC models.
“We are not scaling back our plans for live photo shoots, the use of live models, or our commitment to working with diverse models. Lalaland.ai’s technology, and AI more broadly, can potentially assist us by allowing us to publish more images of our products on a range of body types more quickly.”
…Levi’s addressed some of the concerns raised in its statement Wednesday but did not provide further details on how it planned to address diversity issues. The company did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for further comment.
Shereen Daniels, the CEO and founder of a UK-based racial equity consultancy firm, HR Rewired, roasted Levi’s in a statement to Insider:
“It looks like they’re trying to shortcut their way into the commercial benefits of demonstrating a more representative model, without doing the work.”
Shereen also points out that by 2061, at least in the UK, ethnic people will make up a third of the population and have a disposable income of $708 billion, so Levi’s had better learn how to pander better if they want a piece of that pie!
Where’s Grimes, she seems like she’s always down to defend AI even when she has no concept of what’s going on, and something tells me that she’s ignorant to racial issues the way she is to Communism, so I’d love to hear her thoughts on this. Not because they’d be good ones, but because I like to laugh.
