A Radio DJ Who Worked Security On The Set Of “The Love Guru” Said Mike Myers Had Him Fired For Making Eye Contact

2008 was a notably awful year. People ran around wearing shutter shades and Uggs with miniskirts as “Lollipop” played on a loop in our brains while the entire financial system collapsed. The 2008 bar was on the ground, but we could almost all agree (or all of the 10s of people who’ve sat through it) that The Love Guru starring Mike Myers was a corny, unfunny turd, as evidenced by its 13% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and several Razzie Awards. The Love Guru made The Cat In The Hat look like Citizen Kane. But apparently, Mike took his time on set very seriously; because a Canadian radio DJ named Jay Brody says he was hired to work as set security but was fired four hours into his first day for accidentally making eye contact with Mike.

If you were able to forget the suckitude of this film, here’s the trailer. To put it lightly, Mike and Verne Troyer were not able to recreate the Austin Powers magic:

Jay started by tweeting about angel, Keanu Reeves, deserving praise for helping to carry equipment on the John Wick 4 set, comparing it with his negative experience with Mike:

After Jay’s Mike Myers anecdote caught their attention, he took to his radio show to talk about what happened. via Page Six:

Canadian disc jockey Jay Brody claims he once found himself out of a job after breaking Myers’ alleged cardinal rule: No eye contact.

Brody revealed to “Carly & Jay” listeners on Sonic Radio that, “Mike Myers had me fired off the set of ‘The Love Guru’ because I made eye contact with him — and I was there as his bodyguard!”

Though Jay was warned ahead of time to not stare Shrek in the eyes, Mike showed up to set in costume, so Jay took a good look at him to make sure it was OK to allow him into the trailer.

Brody…received the warning at the time about the former “SNL” star, “You can’t look at him,” even though Myers was “going to be in a wig and prosthetics.”

Myers apparently appeared in costume on Brody’s first day, and “First hour I’m there… I don’t know what he looks like yet, so I just see a man approaching, long hair, thick beard, and I think, ‘That’s Mike Myers.’ I look down, to not look at him… but I realize you can’t just let anyone into the trailer, so I look up and I catch his eye for a second,” he said.

Mike didn’t even have the stones to address the perceived slight himself, but Jay was booted within the hour.

Brody told us Myers “never said anything to me personally.”

Then, “within an hour, I get a phone call letting me know, I’m fired and I have to get off the set,” Brody claims.

Here’s Jay recounting his shitty experience on the set of an even shittier movie:

Mike’s rep responded to the claims and denied them:

A rep for the “Austin Powers” star called the “[15]-year-old claim” bogus and told us, “Mike didn’t have a bodyguard on ‘The Love Guru.’”

Other people validated Jay’s bad Mike Myers experience by sharing similar experiences:

If Mike didn’t want to make eye contact with the little people, the solution to avoiding it was right there at the tip of his opposable baby-arm dick. Just get a privacy curtain!
