A Mississippi Anchor Was Removed From Air After Using One Of Snoop Dogg’s Most Popular Catchphrases

Sometimes it’s better to just remain silent if you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. And this tried, and true lesson of thinking before you speak may have come to claim the employment of WLBT-TV’s meteorologist Barbie Bassett. Recently, during a conversation about marijuana leaf-turned-rapper Snoop Dogg, she and her co-workers were on air discussing the latest addition to his wine collection. When one of the anchors suggested this latest flavor would ensure boozy Barbie’s devotion to Snoop, she agreed by saying, “Fo shizzle, my nizzle” (“nizzle” is slang for the N-word). But what she didn’t know is that her poor choice of words lead to her ultimate firing because this isn’t the first time she’s done something like this.
Apparently, hiding behind those insane eyes and toothy grin is Paula Deen: The Sequel because Barbie has said racially insensitive things before. Last year, after using cringeworthy words of affirmation such as “gurl” and “sis” with fellow anchor Carmen Poe, Barbie suggested she use her feminine wiles to get more information for her story. And then, I do believe Barbie caught the vapors because her brain went straight into Whistlin’ Dixie mode as soon as she brought up Carmen’s “grandmammy.”
@dj.c_blac wooow🤔 did #BarbieBasset just say #Grandmammy smh…. #WLBTNews #Mississippi really
If you look closely, you can pinpoint the exact moment Carmen screamed, “Bitch I will FUCK YOU UP!” behind that forced smile because what the hell is this broad talking about? Of course, an apology ensued afterward because that’s what we do as a society; say mean things and then back it up with an apology that means absolutely nothing. The Clarion-Ledger reports;
“Last Friday on our newscast ‘Today at 11’, I used a term that was offensive to many in our audience and to my coworkers here at WLBT. Though not intentional, I now understand how my comment was both insensitive and hurtful. I have apologized to Carmen Poe,” Bassett said at the time. “Now, I would like to apologize to you. That is not the heart of who I am. And for that, I humbly ask for your forgiveness and I apologize to everyone I have offended. I will learn from this and participate in training so I can better understand our history and our people. I can’t mend the hurt my comment caused. I pray you’ll forgive me and that you’ll extend grace through this awful mistake.”
Oh, Barbie, bless your heart with this bullshit because none of us are buying it, especially after she uttered Snoop’s catchphrase during a live broadcast on March 8.
The latest comments on air were in reference to a story about Snoop Dogg’s latest business venture, Snoop Cali Blanc, his fourth wine in his successful Cali Wine Collection. In crosstalk between the anchors after the news portion of the segment was completed, Bassett, who is white, repeated a famous Snoop slang saying, “Fo shizzle, my [epithet].” The last part referencing the racial epithet referred to an epithet for Black people.

Barbie hasn’t been on air since, and she’s no longer listed on the station’s website. But the station refused to comment.
I think we’re all the guy on the right in the clip, as he, too, had no idea what to say or do next. But her network knew what to say; “YOU’RE FIRED!”. And although Barbie has yet to make a statement about it I think it’s best if she took a break from speaking for a while. Nothing good comes from her usage of words.
