Julia Garner, Madonna’s Chosen “Madonna,” Seems Optimistic That The Scrapped Biopic Might Eventually Happen

Since the Madonna biopic was just a twinkle in 64-year-old Madonna’s (questionably able to fully blink) eye, chaos followed in the form of team change-ups and a competitive casting process for the role of a younger Madge. Though Julia Garner must have successfully completed Madonna’s voguing and floor-humping boot camp to come out on top, the project was soon shelved after Madonna announced her upcoming Celebration Tour, which put Universal Pictures out over $10 million. But when Julia was asked about the movie’s future on her way into the Vanity Fair Oscars party the other night, she kept it coy yet optimistic that it may eventually come to fruition.
The Entertainment Tonight carpet interview started with 29-year-old Julia excitedly talking about her lewk and her friend/Ozark co-star Jason Bateman already being inside the party. But when asked about the Madonna movie’s future, Julia missed a prime opportunity to reply, “I DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT FUCK” and instead kept whatever she knows about it close to her weighted hula-hooped chest while remaining polite, a bit awkward, and probably somewhat hopeful that she’ll be able to grab that check someday.
The Ozark star spoke with ET’s Denny Directo at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday, where she addressed the current status of the project, which was to be directed by Madonna. The film, which was to star Garner as the music icon, was put on hold in January after Madonna announced a world tour.
“Yeah, yeah,” she told ET when asked if she was hopeful the movie would come to fruition down the line.
“I don’t want to tell too much. I want to keep things… yeah, fingers crossed,” Garner said of the potential biopic.
Here’s that moment:

Julia’s ol’ trusty Ruth Langmore perm would transition nicely into Madge’s Dick Tracy era, so maybe once Madge’s tour is done, she’ll get back into the movie-making business, and we’ll get to see Julia’s hair-acting in action again. In the meantime, Madonna’s been pretending to pop it wide open for 29-year-old Josh Popper and licking her platform heels, rolling around on the floor like a turtle on its back, and pretending to win an Oscar; so yeah, let’s maybe keep realistic expectations about the future of her movie AND her tour.
