Mo’Nique Is STILL Waiting For Apologies From Tyler Perry And Oprah Winfrey

Now that Mo’Nique has disembarked from her cruise aboard the SS Blackballed she is finally in the spotlight again and laughing all the way to the bank. And it comes after years of contention between her, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and Lee Daniels. Mo’ and Lee made up last year, but Tyler and Oprah are still side-eyeing her with binoculars atop their stories-high piles of cash. And Mo’ is still waiting for them to apologize, but hopefully, she’s not holding her breath while waiting because she will surely suffocate.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mo’ reminded everyone she doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks about her because she’s always going to speak her mind. She discussed her Netflix lawsuit as well as her upcoming comedy special. She also mentioned her falling out with Oprah after being blindsided with a triggering interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show featuring her entire family that should have been renamed The We HATE Mo’Nique Hour. But another thing that could have damaged their relationship was Mo’ telling Oprah, “Hell NO!” when it came to participating in the Oscar press tour for Precious.

“As I explained to Oprah Winfrey, I said, ‘Oprah, I’m doing a talk show. I’m doing a comedy tour. I have a husband and I have babies. I have a little bit of downtime and I’m going to take advantage of it. So I’m not going anywhere because I’m not obligated to go anywhere. I’ve done my part,’” she says. “So we mutually agreed to disagree. That was it. Next thing I know, I am considered ‘difficult’ and ‘hard to work with.’

Oprah vaguely addressed their feud again while promoting 2018’s A Wrinkle in Time. At the time, Oprah said, “It’s a law that when you meet negative with negative, you just have a combusted negative force of negative energy. You have to rise above it. You have to transcend it. You have to be the light. And it only takes a little bit of light to banish the darkness.” Uh, ok Oprah. But even as discount as her response was, it’s still more than Mo’ ever got from Tyler. Back when she refused to do the Oscars shimmy and shakedown for Precious, Tyler was one of the people chastising her, and their feud has been ongoing since then. Therefore Mo’ is still awaiting a public apology from both of them. But Mo’ also admitted what she said during her acceptance speech could have also contributed to the Heathers of black Hollywood, Lee, Tyler, and Oprah, cutting ties with her.

“First, I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics,” Mo’Nique said onstage, earning applause, before turning her thoughts to [Hattie McDaniel], whom she thanked “for enduring all that she had to, so that I would not have to.” She mentioned Winfrey and Perry in her Oscar speech — “because you touched it the whole world saw it,” she said — but did not utter Daniels’ name, incensing him.

Despite the victory, Mo’Nique says she received a chilly reception from her collaborators. After waiting 40 minutes to take a group photo with the evening’s winners, she decided she’d had enough of the Oscars and went back to the hotel with Hicks to put her twin sons to bed. “So when y’all see the photo from the year that I won, I’m not in the picture,” she says.

Good luck with that apology Mo’! Because much like how most of Tyler’s fans want him to stop using Dollar Tree mops as wigs in all of his productions, that apology you’re waiting for ain’t never gonna happen.
