Exes Florence Pugh And Zach Braff Reunited At The Premiere Of Their New Movie

Movie star Florence Pugh and Scrubs star Zach Braff started dating in 2019. After three years of indignantly defending their 21-year age gap, Florence officially announced their split last summer. Now, I don’t know about Miss Flo, but when I break up with someone, I never want to see them again. Unfortunately, these two filmed a movie together in 2021, and now it’s finally coming out. A Good Person was written, directed, and produced by 47-year-old Zach, and 27-year-old Florence stars and co-produces. Variety reports that last night, the exes had no choice but to reunite for the movie’s premiere in London. Actually, strike that. Florence did have a choice. See: her decision to skip most of the promo for Don’t Worry, Darling.

As much as I’d love to dunk on Zach some more, the story behind A Good Person is actually pretty depressing. Florence plays a young woman who descends into opioid addiction after a serious car crash. Morgan Freeman co-stars. During a Q&A after last night’s screening, Zach says he was inspired to write the screenplay while grieving the 2018 deaths of his sister and father, followed by the 2020 passing of his close friend, Nick Cordero, who died of COVID complications. via Variety:

“I wanted to tell the story because I was feeling these emotions. I lost a bunch of people in my life that were very important to me,” Braff said. “We were in lockdown and it was time to write. I mean, there was nothing to do other than to start a screenplay because that’s what I meant to do, that’s what I like to do, and I wanted to write something for Florence, and this is kind of what came out of me.”

Florence says that Zach would squirrel himself away in their home office to work on the screenplay:

“I wasn’t allowed to read any of it,” she said. “I wasn’t allowed to read any of the scenes as he was writing it and he’d come up from the office [having] locked himself in there for a few hours and then would just start telling me all the pieces that he had discovered and I really wasn’t allowed to read anything. And so I kind of got to know the script and I got to know the character through us discussing it over dinner.”

Florence added that Zach infused her own personality into her character and said it was a “wonderful gift” to read something written for her by someone who knew her so well. Zach added that he’s “in awe” of his ex’s talent. So, clearly, these two don’t hate each other’s guts post-breakup. Or they do, and they’re bullshitting to promote the movie. After all, these two are ~*award-winning*~ ACTORS. Florence is a BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee, and Zach is… well, Zach played J.D. on Scrubs.
