Hugh Grant Admits He Had A Tantrum On The Set Of The “Dungeons & Dragons” Movie

Hugh Grant has always been a grump. His ex, Elizabeth Hurley, says her friends refer to him as “Grumpelstiltskin”. But on the set of his latest flick, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, “Grumpelstiltskin” got upgraded to “asshole with an anger problem.” Yahoo! reports that 62-year-old Hugh admitted to losing his fucking shit on a woman who walked into his eye line during a take. So, Hugh did a Christian Bale. And that’s exactly how he describes it: “I did a Christian Bale.”

Hugh says he freaked out at the woman because he thought she was one of those no-good studio execs. via Yahoo!:

“I lost my temper with a woman in my eyeline on day one. I assumed she was some executive from the studio who should have known better. Then it turns out that she’s an extremely nice local woman who was the chaperone of the young girl. Terrible. A lot of grovelling… “

Hugh adds that his freak-out was just like Christian Bale’s on the set of 2009’s Terminator: Salvation. The key difference was that the target of Christian’s rage was a cinematographer who’d worked in the biz for years. Hugh’s was a wide-eyed innocent who works with children! Dungeons & Dragons was filmed in Iceland and Northern Ireland, so this saintly mother figure either sounded like Bjork or one of the actors in The Banshees of Insherin. Somehow, her having an accent makes Hugh’s tantrum even more egregious (at least in my head).

This is far from the first “Hugh has anger issues” story we’ve heard. In 2012, Jon Stewart shared that Hugh was the “worst guest” The Daily Show had ever had, “and we’ve had dictators on the show.” Zing! Here’s exactly what Jon said, via Third Beat:

Grant spent his time at the studio complaining that he had other places to be. “He’s giving everyone shit the whole time, and he’s a big pain in the ass,” Stewart recalled. Grant also complained to the staff about the clip that was selected of the movie he was promoting, Did You Hear About the Morgans? – a clip that was obviously supplied by the film’s publicist. Stewart recalls Grant angrily asking “What is that clip? It’s a terrible clip.” “Well, then make a better fucking movie,” Stewart said, adding that he would “never” have Grant back.

Hugh initially responded to Jon’s words with this tweet:

In 2015, during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, Hugh shared more details about his Daily Show appearance. via Us Weekly:

“He wasn’t entirely wrong,” Grant acquiesced. “I did have a tantrum backstage. About once a year, I have a really mega tantrum and sadly he witnessed one. So, he’s absolutely right. I’m sure it’s very sad he’s leaving the show.”

He went on to say that he’s annoyed when people think he’s a “polite English gentleman”. In reality, he says people should be aware that he’s “a nasty piece of work.” Hopefully, Hugh can find healthier ways to channel his anger. Might I suggest… S&M? Oh wait, he’s already into that:
