Selena Gomez Left Social Media Because Of Comments Comparing Her To “Someone Else” (Probably Hailey Bieber)

The ongoing love triangle between Archie, Betty and Veronica (AKA Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber) is exhausting to watch. Members of #TeamHailey and #TeamSelena enjoy their digital cat fights complete with shady comments and moments of playing the victim. But Selena has finally had enough and is ready to take a much-needed break from social media because of constantly being compared to “someone else”. I wonder who that could be???

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Selena alluded to leaving the majority of social media behind after some unpleasant comments from users comparing her to “someone” else. And look, we’re not stupid, Selena. We know the “someone” else you’re referring to is Bieber’s bride. Recently there was a post of Selena vacationing wearing a bathing suit where members of #TeamHailey immediately began body shaming her, much like they did when she was at The Golden Globes. And instead of staying out of it Hailey, along with vapid vampires Kendall Jenner and Justine Skye, allegedly threw a little lighter fuel on their “squashed” feud with a moment of auto-tuned messiness that may have been aimed straight in Selena’s direction.

Selena has never been shy about the amount of backlash she faces online so she’s packing her bags to take another vacation far, far away from the Island of Messy Bitches known as social media.

You’re one of the few stars to be upfront about outsourcing your social media accounts to an assistant, because of how toxic you felt Instagram, in particular, to be. Can you talk about that decision?

I never got the chance to go to an actual high school. The world was my high school for the longest time, and I started getting inundated with information that I didn’t want. I went through a hard time in a breakup and I didn’t want to see any of the [feedback]—not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else. There’d be thousands of really nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean one.

People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.

The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile. There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually that’s filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do I send to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.

Somehow, I believe Hailey will find a way to buck the system and toss more unnecessary shade at Selena through a dummy account. But if she does, Selena can rest assured her Selenators will be waiting with balled-up fists to let Hailey know when she’s ready, come and get it!

Personally we all need to take a break from social media once in a while, so Selena’s on the right path. And if Hailey was being shady, then she needs to concern herself more with Justin’s well-being instead of posting weird videos featuring the family black sheep and a woman who will forever be referred to as “Who??”
