Rebel Wilson Said Her “Pitch Perfect” Contract Wouldn’t Let Her Lose More Than 10 Pounds

Does Rebel Wilson actually act anymore? Her main gig seems to be going on podcasts to talk about her life (and shilling her loungewear fashion brand… and launching a new dating app… and raising her baby girl Royce). Honestly, I don’t blame her. Being a movie star sounds like a drag. Case in point, ET reports that, during a recent appearance on the podcast, Call Her Daddy, Rebel revealed she wasn’t allowed to lose more than ten pounds when she was under contract for the Pitch Perfect movies. Ten pounds?! What would studio execs do if she lost more? Force-feed her lard?

Back in 2020, when she first began losing weight, Rebel said she had a job where she was “paid a lot of money to bigger.” Obviously, this job was Pitch Perfect. I mean, her character was called “Fat Amy.” Now, Rebel says she didn’t feel like she could lose weight until after the Pitch Perfect movies were done. They spanned from 2012 to 2017. She says:

“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight, because I was in the contracts for that movie,” Wilson explains. “I think it’s not more than 10 pounds [you can lose] and not gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight that’s in your contract.”

Despite the contract, the Australian star tells Cooper that she’d “been thinking for a while” that she wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle. “I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend,” she says of her acting parts in the past, including 2011’s Bridesmaids and 2016’s How to Be Single. “I love doing those roles, I love those characters, but then I did want to do more things. But then I felt like being the bigger girl, you’re just more pigeonholed.”

Here’s Rebel talking about her contract:

Rebel also told the Call Her Daddy host that she wasn’t in her first real relationship until she was 35. She says that was the thinking behind making 2019 her “Year of Love”; to make up for lost time and find love. She’s been with her partner, Ramona Agruma, since coming out last June (she was pretty much forced to by an Australian newspaper).

42-year-old Rebel has talked a lot about making the decision to lose weight after a 2019 appointment with a fertility doctor. The doc told her if she wanted a better chance of harvesting and freezing her eggs, she should get healthy. Rebel has PCOS, a hormonal imbalance that fucks with your weight and ovulation. The more weight you gain, the worse symptoms like irregular periods, infertility, and weight gain (???) are. She ended up using a surrogate for her daughter, who was born last autumn. But, since 2020, she’s lost at least 80 pounds and reached her goal weight of 165 pounds. Now Rebel says she’s focusing on “maintenance.” Blegh, all this weight loss talk is giving me Vietnam-style flashbacks to the time I did Weight Watchers after gaining 30 pounds my freshman year of college. I managed to drop the weight, even though I replaced all my daily fruit requirements with chocolate bars. Ah, to have the metabolism of a 19-year-old again…
