Sheryl Lee Ralph Has A Few Words For Those Wondering If She Was Lip Syncing At The Super Bowl

This year’s Super Bowl was more like a series of musical numbers with a little bit of football sprinkled in to break up the performances. One of the better moments during the entire showcase was when America’s Sweetheart Sheryl Lee Ralph reminded us all she is the ORIGINAL Deena Jones from Dreamgirls while singing the Black National Anthem Lift Every Voice And Sing. And sing she did, even though people watching immediately got the Twitter itch in their fingers to question whether or not she was lip-syncing during her performance. And that’s when Sheryl found the nicest way to tell all of those people to Go To Hell.
Sheryl was dressed like the Queen of Black History Month as she stood in the middle of the field and commanded everyone to lift their voices to the heavens and sing out loud! The moment meant something very special for her because of her ties to Philadelphia. Her hit show Abbott Elementary takes place in Philly, and her husband, Vincent Hughes, is a Philly senator. The only thing missing from her performance was someone in the background handing out cheesesteaks and soft pretzels. After Sheryl finished, she spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and admitted she had been chosen to sing prior to the Philadephia Eagles making it to the Super Bowl, which added more joy to the entire experience.
“It’s just so amazing that they chose me. And then the Eagles are in the Super Bowl. I mean, come on. You know God must be a woman because all of this is just too perfect,” Ralph said.
“Just amazing, just stunning,” she continued. “And the way people have been coming back, they said, ‘Girl, you made the pre-show look like it was trying to be halftime.’ They said, ‘The costume. The wardrobe. The hair. The shoes. The makeup.’ I was just like, ‘Well, thank you. Fenty of it all, hey.’”
Sheryl’s husband gave her a special shout on Twitter after Sheryl’s performance as well.

Babyface sang live when performing America The Beauty, and so did Chris Stapleton when he growled out The National Anthem. THEE Sheryl Lee Ralph seemed to be LIP-SYNCHING for her life, and when others brought it up, she didn’t seem to give one fuck. Sheryl kept it cute, and curt, and added a dose of WHO CARES to her answer:
For those who wondered if [she] lip-synced during her Super Bowl performance, her response: “Does it matter? Does it matter? No. Thank you.”
And that’s how you do it. You don’t have to be mean to get your point across, and Sheryl’s verbal middle finger to anyone who had something negative to say is 100% proof of that.
Here’s her full performance:
Sheryl Lee Ralph was absolutely amazing. They also had Justina Miles as the ASL translator for this and she’ll be back as the ASL translator for Rihanna’s halftime performance. #SuperBowl pic.twitter.com/3FrSGDdaPn
