Open Post: Hosted By The Puppies of Puppy Bowl XIX

If big dudes chasing a ball in matching outfits or even a Rihanna headlined halftime show don’t do it for you, this weekend might be a bust. However, if you’re a fan of puppies, have I got some fantastic news. Hot on the heels of Super Bowl LVII is this year’s Puppy Bowl! It’s almost time to watch a group of dogs run around a miniature football field and do adorable things all in the name of pet adoption!

Every year, Animal Planet airs the Puppy Bowl which features over 100 pups fighting for the hearts of a nation. The players of Team Fluff and Team Ruff are all rescue animals of different shapes, sizes, and abilities. If you’ve not tuned in once during its 19-year run, you can expect a bunch of dogs losing it over a ball, a bizarre halftime show featuring kittens, and about a million canine-based puns. Via People:

For the big canine game, cuddly competitors are divided into Team Ruff and Team Fluff and compete to win the “Lombarky” trophy. Other prizes to claim include the MVP (Most Valuable Puppy) award and one of the Underdog Awards.

For Puppy Bowl 2023, 11 puppies with special needs are part of the roster. This includes Julius, a Dalmatian with hearing loss; Mykonos, an American Staffordshire terrier/bulldog with a cleft palate; and Marmalade, a border collie/Australian cattle dog with sight and hearing impairments.

Fan-favorite elements are returning for Puppy Bowl 2023, including the Kitten Halftime Show —featuring felines from three different shelters — the Puppy Cheer Squad and the water bowl cameras.

It’s hard not to root for these guys. Just look at Joey!

Or fan favorites Josh Allenhound and Moocow (Moocow all the way).

Since the game is filmed earlier in the year, most of the puppy players have already found their forever homes. However, the Puppy Bowl spotlights animals who are still looking for a happy family. This year, 11 pups and three kittens will get the star treatment. You can see the full list here. Whether you’re Team Fluff or Team Ruff, it doesn’t matter. We all win when there are puppeh on the TV!
