Madonna Responded To All The Comments About Her Looks At The Grammys, And Blames Ageism And Long Lens Cameras

On Sunday, Madonna attended the Grammys to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith’s satanic performance of “Unholy.”. Now, because it’s 2023 and Madonna’s visage has undergone some, err, changes, she’s since faced a lot of negative attention about her appearance that night. The general question seems to be, “what the fuck did Madge do to her face?” Two days later, Madonna is clapping back, and blaming the criticism on ageism, misogyny, and those dastardly long-lens cameras. Somewhere, Madonna’s plastic surgeon just breathed a giant sigh of relief. Once again, he’s managed to slither away scot-free.

Here’s one of the photos that sparked criticism about Madonna’s face:

People also made fun of her in the comments of this Instagram post:

It wasn’t just people on social media. The New York Post reports that Megyn Kelly said Madge was “unwell” and suffering from “a sickness” on her SiriusXM podcast. The backlash about her appearance was also discussed on shows like Good Morning America and Loose Women.

Yesterday, the Queen of Pop took to Instagram to address her haters. She posted a Grammys video of her hanging with Cardi B, Sam Smith, Honey Dijon, Ab-Soul, and tonguing rapper Jozzy. In the caption, Madge wrote that she initially wanted to present the Grammy for Album of the year, but she thought it was more important to present Kim Petras, the first trans woman to perform at the awards show:

Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim- Many people chose to only talk about Close-up photos of me Taken with a long lens camera By a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face!!

Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny That permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 And feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous.

Madonna adds that she’s “never apologized” for any of the creative choices she’s made, including how she looks or how she dresses, and she certainly won’t start now. She says she’s always been “degraded” by the media, but she’s happy to “do the trailblazing” so that other women have an easier time in the future. Then, she quotes Beyoncé, writing: “You won’t break my soul.” She ends the caption by saying that she looks forward to “many more years of subversive behavior – pushing boundaries- Standing up to the patriarchy -and Most of all enjoying my life. Bow down bitches!”:

A few hours later, Madonna added this to Twitter:

I am genuinely fascinated by Madge’s apparent belief that getting plastic surgery to look younger is a “subversive” “creative choice”. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Or boundary-pushing feminist artistes? I’ll let you decide…
