A Professional Lip Reader Thinks Jennifer Lopez Told Ben Affleck To Look “More Friendly, Motivated” At The Grammys, And A Source Says He Was Just Tired

Depending on how you look at it (or whether you’re a seasoned fame-ho or not), Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s night at the 2023 Grammys was either a massive failure or wildly successful. Yeah, Ben’s whole-night misery went viral, and they seemed to have another on-camera tiff, but they went VIRAL! And any kind of attention is good attention if you’re Bennifer. A professional lip reader studied the footage of Jen and Ben and came to the conclusion that Jen basically told him to give the camera a more friendly face and/or the impression he actually wanted to be there. And although the majority of us have added this outing to our ever-growing pile of “it’ll be a miracle if they make it until summer” evidence, a source said Ben wasn’t acting like himself because he’s just exhausted from juggling multiple projects.

According to The Daily Mail, a professional lip reader watched the footage of Ben and Jen in that awkward exchange where Jen (shockingly) didn’t find the camera until it was too late and decided that Ben’s mommy wifey ordered him to look alive.

Jennifer Lopez ordered her husband Ben Affleck to make more of an effort during the Grammy Awards on Sunday night – snapping at the 50-year-old and demanding he pretend to be enjoying himself, in an embarrassing exchange caught on camera.

Lopez and Affleck, who frequently looks strained and angry when in public, were seen exchanging tense words during the ceremony, right as host Trevor Noah sat down next to them.

‘Stop,’ Lopez tells him. ‘Look more friendly. Look motivated.’ Affleck replies: ‘I might.’

Here’s that moment:

I might?” I can see why Ben’s hesitant to commit to being more motivated. Batfleck’s face has already given us so much in the way of reaction memes: tired, stretched too thin, vexed, overwhelmed, and thirsty. Pretending to enjoy spending time with Jennifer Lopez while she luxuriates in her own farts after completing the 45-second job of presenting an award? That’s a bridge too damn far. Though Ben’s Grammy demeanor seems to be his default setting these days, a “source” (hi, Jen!) told ET Canada that he’s just been working a lot lately and he wasn’t at his best because he’s exhausted.

“Jen and Ben had a fun date night out at the Grammys, but they have both have been very busy working on several projects, and Ben was feeling tired,” the source says. “He wanted to go and support Jen, but he wasn’t his usual self.”

“Jen had a great time and wanted Ben to be excited to be there, but she understood where he was coming from,” the source adds. “Jen knows Ben is a great husband and they still made sure to have a good night together.”

The source adds that Lopez “knows how supportive Ben is towards her and her work, but also gets that Ben is more of a homebody, and it isn’t his thing to be out at events all the time.”

“She is appreciative of his support whether it’s while they’re out and about or just hanging at home,” the source says.

It’s looking more and more like the most daunting of his “several projects” is trying to convince the people this 6-month-old marriage wasn’t an XL Dunkin’ iced coffee diarrhea-level mistake. If it’s just some rest that he needs, get this man another yacht nap before his next public appearance, stat!
