Lauren Sanchez Talks About Being “Devastated” Over Losing A Gig On “The View,” Jeff Bezos’ Pancakes, And Having To Be More Private Now

What’s it like to be the World’s Most Glamorous Woman on the arm of the World’s Baldest Billionaire? Well, nobody is really sure because MacKenzie Scott refuses to do interviews about her ex-husband Jeff Bezos. But Jeff’s new lady friend Lauren Sanchez did! And while she may not be quite as glamorous as Mac, Jeff’s “goofy” ass (Lauren’s word, not mine, but also mine) is lucky to have her. Billions of dollars won’t buy you love, but it can buy you a former working girl (in this case, a former Extra correspondent) with a head for business and a bod for sin. According to Lauren’s alma mater, Extra, in her “first solo interview!,” she told The Wall Street Journal (so much for that inside scoop, Extra. How are you gonna keep ‘em on the farm when they’ve seen the inside of Jeff’s Bezos’ space dick?) that losing out on her “dream job” as one of the hosts of The View in 1999, was “one of the most devastating days of [her] life.” But if you think Lauren is still wallowing in pity and regret 23 years later, then you don’t know Lauren at all.

Because Lauren turned that frown upside (and for some reason, also stretched it sideways all the way to her ears), and now she’s spending Sunday mornings eating “the best pancakes in the world” made special for her by the sexiest billionaire in their kitchen on those special Sundays when no other billionaires are present. Eat your heart out, Lisa Ling! She may have gotten Lauren’s seat on The View, but she’ll never know what it’s like to wake up with the smell of billionaire batter filling your nose. A fortuitous reversal of fortune she has Star Jones to thank for. According to the New York Post:

The 53-year-old TV host and helicopter pilot, who catapulted into the public eye via her relationship with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos starting in 2019, recalled in an interview with WSJ Magazine the moment she felt like her career was crashing down in 1999. She didn’t get her dream job: a role on Barbara Walters’ daytime talk show “The View.”

“It was one of the most devastating days of my life,” Sanchez told Derek Blasberg in the interview published Wednesday.

Sanchez recalled bonding instantly with Walters while auditioning for “The View,” though she admitted clashing with original cast member Star Jones. Their differences may have cost her the role. Instead, journalist Lisa Ling took the coveted spot alongside Jones, Meredith Vieira, Joy Behar and Walters, who personally phoned Sanchez to tell her the disappointing news that left her in tears for days.

Sanchez said Jones later apologized and that Walters remained a mentor.

Here’s a clip from 2013 of Lauren guest co-hosting on The View, explaining her disappointment over not having been cast, and got Whoopi Goldberg prepared to throw fists when she says “there was one person who was actually quite mean to me here, I was bullied a little bit.” In this clip (starting at :30) we also learn that the person who was in charge of Meghan McCain‘s hair has been employed at The View for decades.

Of course, now that she’s secured the bag and the factory that produces the bags and their contents, she’s had to stop posting everything on Instagram, which is hard for her!

“It’s hard. I’m a very open person. I talk a lot. I like to tell all my secrets. I have had to learn that I can’t do that. It’s a good lesson. [I used to] say stuff to people and no one would care!”

All the time. I want to tell everyone everything. I want everyone to be my friend! I learned how to not give the location of where I’m at. I can’t Instagram things that I normally would before. I have to be more private, a little more controlled, and that’s fine.”

But Lauren’s thirst for TV stardom and Instagram likes has been replaced by a different kind of thirst. One that can only be quenched IN SPACE! According to Extra:

Lauren has big goals for the future, including leading an all-female team to outer space on Blue Origin next year. She dished, “It’s going to be women who are making a difference in the world and who are impactful and have a message to send… I’m super excited about it. And a little nervous. I’ve wanted to be in the rocket from the jump, so [Bezos] is excited to make this happen with all of these women. It’s funny what he said the other day: ‘Fly fast; take chances.’ That’s his motto. He’s very encouraging and excited, and he’s thrilled we’re putting this group together.”

Well, one thing she won’t have to worry about is money. And another thing she won’t have to worry about is what will happen to her face while experiencing G-force. She already knows.
