Jennifer Lopez Says She Suffered From A Bit of PTSD From Planning Her Wedding After Her First Engagement To Ben Affleck Fell Apart
Last year, Jennifer Lopez chose to Moonwalk a few decades back to reignite her stale union with Ben Affleck. The two of them were engaged many years ago but eventually came to their senses when they called their nuptials off. Now, in the spirit of second chances, they have reunited to give it one more try. Although JLo admits she had many feelings of apprehension ahead of her and Ben’s second go-’round.
JLo is still on her current attention-seeking tour for the upcoming film Shotgun Wedding. And during her janky junket for this latest ‘Love me some white men!’ rom-com, she’s already informed us that was the one initially slated to play Double Dutch with Madonna’s tongue at the VMAs many moons ago. Now, in keeping with the theme of the early aughts, Complex reports that JLo sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to discuss how last year’s wedding to Ben was filled with much anxiety. And not just because she was marrying Ben (which would freak anyone out). J. Lo admits she still had unresolved feelings from the first time their engagement tanked faster than Gigli did at the box office.
“Twenty years ago we were supposed to get married, and it kind of all fell apart back then,” Lopez remembered. “And this time I absolutely had a little PTSD. I was like, ‘Is this happening? Is this really happening?’ And we were so happy, of course, it was happening, but I just felt the wedding was so stressful.”
Ben probably wanted to leave everything to JLo when he remembered, “Well, she is a wedding planner, right?” No, Ben, that was one of her movies. And I’m going to assume after realizing that, and then realizing he was already on his way to Las Vegas for God knows what, he decided to invite J. Lo along so they could at least get the legal part of the marriage out of the way.
After Affleck noticed how stressed Lopez was trying to pick a location for their ceremony, he offered a suggestion. “We hung up the phone and I was like, ‘This is crazy. What are we doing?'” Lopez recalled. “Ben just says, ‘Fuck it, let’s just go to Vegas and get married tonight.'”
“He was like, ‘Go to rehearsal. When you get back here, I’m going to have everything all set up. Three of our kids were at camp, two of them were with us and he was like, ‘They’re going to be our witnesses. Let’s go. We’re doing it tonight.’ And we did,” she shared.
Kudos to Ben for the suggestion, which more than likely came about so they could do it quickly, and he’d have time to hit the slots while she treated the kids to an all-night buffet. Even obtaining the marriage license wasn’t much of a hassle for them either since most of the people waiting with them were probably still hungover and wondering, “Why are these discount Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez impersonators waiting for a marriage license?”
