Amanda Seyfried Is Working On A Musical Adaptation Of “Thelma & Louise” With Even Rachel Wood Possibly Riding Shotgun

Mamma Mia! Just when Amanda Seyfried’s career was picking up speed, she’s about to drive that shit right off a cliff. And she might be taking Evan Rachel Wood down with her. Because according to Variety, the new musical that Amanda was so “deep in the process of creating” that she couldn’t make it accept her Golden Globe for The Dropout is a musical adaptation of Thelma & Louise.
Callie Khouri, who won an Oscar for writing the original 1991 screenplay, will co-write the book for the musical. Neko Case will do the music. Back in 2012, Lindsay Lohan pitched her own idea for a Thelma & Louise reboot (presumably) during a coke-fueled fever dream after watching The Hunger Games when she tweeted, “Jennifer Lawrence in ‘The Hunger Games’ is genius. I want to do Thelma&Louise w/her but ala Natural Born Killers (style wise) 2 girls-2 guys.” But alas, Lindsay’s twin dreams of Renewed Fame and Renewed Fortune just held hands and took a header into the abyss. Thank goodness for airbags and seat belts! Sadly, this Jennifer Lawrence person was never heard from again. Variety reports:
A “Thelma & Louise” musical has been in the works since at least 2021 with the film’s screenwriter, Callie Khouri, attached and writing the book with Haley Feiffer, as well as indie singer/songwriter Neko Case creating the score. Scott Delman serves as the producer.
