Prince Harry Discusses Family Reconciliation In A Pair of Interviews Coming Out Ahead Of His Memoir “Spare”

I’m going to have to assume that the real reason Anderson Cooper spent New Year’s Eve sober as a judge wasn’t to appease the higher-ups at CNN, but so he could get through a “revealing60 Minutes interview with Prince Harry without nodding off. Harry’s explosive” memoir Spare is due next week (Jan. 10) so he’s making the rounds, presumably to fill in the gaps about his family struggles that weren’t already covered in his and Meghan Markle’s “unprecedentedsix-part Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, their bombshell Oprah interview, Meghan’s ground-breaking” Spotify podcast or her conspiratorial” interview for The Cut. According to People, Harry also sat down with Tom Bradley of ITV for “an” interview. The clips that were shared over the weekend from both interviews were cleverly cut to exclude the parts where Coop and Bradley had to do shots of pickle juice in order to stay awake.

These guys probably needed all the help they could get in order to offer Harry conciliatory nods and feigned surprise as he rehashed “his and Meghan’s decision to step back as senior working royals, why he believes ‘silence is betrayal’ and his thoughts on reconciliation” with his family, namely King Charles and Prince William. However, in a stunning revelation, Harry tells Anderson that he “doesn’t see himself ever returning to his former role within the royal family.” I’m sure in that moment, you could have knocked Anderson over with a feather (because he was already asleep. Pro tip: Paint open eyeballs on your glasses!). People reports:

Prince Harry told Anderson Cooper that he doesn’t see himself ever returning to his former role within the royal family.

In a new trailer released ahead of the Duke of Sussex’s upcoming 60 Minutes interview with the CNN anchor, Harry, 38, quickly shot down the idea when Cooper asked him the question.

“Can you see a day when you would return as a full-time member of the royal family?” Cooper, 55, asked Harry in a clip shared on Twitter by 60 Minutes on Monday.

“No,” Prince Harry replied. The footage continued to roll of Harry’s talk with the 18-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, as a voiceover said the “revealing” special will air Sunday on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

For Spare‘s U.K. promotion, the Duke of Sussex gave an interview to Tom Bradby of ITV, who previously spoke with Harry and Meghan Markle for the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey in 2019.

ITV and CBS both announced their upcoming interviews with Prince Harry on Monday, sharing snippets of the sit-downs to social media. The footage released shows Harry discussing his and Meghan’s decision to step back as senior working royals, why he believes “silence is betrayal” and his thoughts on reconciliation with his father King Charles and brother Prince William.

Here’s the clip from Anderson’s It’s Just 60 Minutes, You Got This interview.

According to CNN, Harry tells Anderson that the reason he and Meghan continue to “air their grievances about what led to the move publicly” is because “every singly time I tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife.” Something he reiterated in his ITV interview, stating that “It never needed to be this way.” Harry says he’d love to reconcile with Chuckie Trips and the bald(er) one, but they’re unwilling to play fair. People reports:

“It never needed to be this way,” Harry tells ITV’s Tom Bradby in the preview in which no questions can be heard. He goes on to refer to “the leaking and the planting” of stories in the British press before telling Bradby, “I want a family, not an institution.”

At another point in the ITV interview, Harry says, “they feel as though it is better to keep us somehow as the villains,” and “they have shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile,” although it is not clear who he is referring to.

But he adds: “I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back.”

Lol. This is why Harry will never make it as an American. Had he turned directly to the camera and said in his best, booming bass voice, “BBQ Sauce,” he and Meghan might have had a fighting chance to win every heart and mind in the country. Here’s the clip of Harry letting it all slip through his fingers.
