Martina Navratoliva Has Been Diagnosed With Two Kinds Of Cancer

Sad news. Yesterday People confirmed reports that tennis legend Martina Navratilova had been diagnosed with two separate cancers: throat cancer and breast cancer, both stage 1. 66-year-old Martina took to Twitter to thank everyone for their support and assure fans that she’s “not done yet“. Martina’s wife of 8 years, Real Housewives of Miami star Julia Lemogova, posted a picture of herself, Martina, and their cute little blond dachshund, Lulu, to Instagram. In the caption, 50-year-old Julia wrote, “Together, we will fight this.” Dr. Lulu, it’s your time to shine!

Here are Julia and Martina’s posts:

Martina also issued this statement to The Sunday Times:

“This double whammy is serious but still fixable,” she said. “I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all I have got.”

Cancer better be quaking in its boots. Before Martina retired from tennis, she won a record-breaking 59 grand slam titles. So if she says she’s gonna fight cancer with all she’s got, she means business. Also, this isn’t the first time Martina has faced cancer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, and declared cancer-free the following year. At the time of her diagnosis, Martina told People:

“It knocked me on my ass, really. I feel so in control of my life and my body, and then this comes, and it’s completely out of my hands.”

So that’s Martina 1, Cancer 0. This time, Martina’s spokesperson tells People that Martina initially went to the doctor for a swollen lymph node in her neck, which turned out to be cancerous. At the same time, doctors found a mass in Martina’s breast, which was also found to be cancerous. The spokesperson says that “the cancer type is HPV,” which responds “really well to treatment.” She adds that, luckily, both cancers are in “early stages.”

Fans of Real Housewives of Miami know that Martina’s wife, Julia, owns a farm outside of the city. So Julia and Dr. Lulu aren’t the only ones supporting Martina in her cancer battle. There’s goats, cows, chickens, cats, and even more doggies. And they’re all sending Martina good vibes and bleating/mooing/clucking/meowing/barking, “FUCK CANCER!!!”
